FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Randolph-Macon saw three different players end the night with double digit point totals to help propel the Yellow Jackets to their first win of the season, defeating Mary Washington 52-46.

How it Happened
- Mary Washington took an early 8-2 lead, following a Rileigh Weaver lay-up at the 5:10 mark in the first period. The Yellow Jackets answered with a quick 6-0 burst, which was led with two baskets by McKenzie Matheny (Fairfax Station, Va./West Springfield) to tie up the game at 8-8. Marisa Ziegler (Forest Hill, Md./John Carroll) made a lay-up with :26 seconds left in the period to give the Yellow Jackets the 13-12 lead at the end of the first period.
- In the second period, neither team would gain more than a two point lead in the first four minutes. Catherine Kagey (Roanoke, Va./Faith Christian) converted on a driving lay-up, giving the Lemon and Black a 21-17 lead; forcing Mary Washington to take a timeout with 6:42 remaining. The Eagles pulled back within one point with free throws at 21-20. Randolph-Macon would turn up the defensive pressure, helping the offense start a 10-4 run that lasted four minutes and gave the Yellow Jackets a 31-24 lead with 1:41 left in the half. Mary Washington would score the final two points of the period with a basket by Adline Riner. Randolph-Macon would use the run to carry a 31-26 lead into halftime.
- Mary Washington came out of the locker room with aggression to begin the third period, scoring the first five points in the first minute and would tie up the game at 31-31. The Yellow Jackets answered with five straight points of their own, that was capped off by a Sam Smith (Chesterfield, Va./St. Gertrudes) lay-up plus the foul shot. The Eagles would not go away, as Riner rattled off five straight points to tie the game back up at 36-36 with 3:11 remaining. Matheny and Smith scored the final four points of the third period, both making a pair of free throws to send Randolph-Macon into the final ten minutes with a 40-36 point lead.
- The Yellow Jackets continued the four point run and turned it into an 11-0 run that lasted until the 7:08 of the final period. Smith took control of the game and scored five points to open the fourth period, opening up the Yellow Jacket lead to double-digits at 47-36. Mary Washington mounted a late comeback with an 8-2 run that was led by Riner that accounted for four points, pulling the deficit to 49-44. Randolph-Macon salted the final two minutes away with free throws to take home the 52-46 victory.

- Randolph-Macon shot 31.7% from the floor, as UMW knocked down 31.0% of their shots.
- The Yellow Jackets outrebounded the Eagles 56-to-33 in the entire game.
- Matheny recorded a double-double for the Lemon and Black with 12 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. The junior also recorded a block and a steal to add to her impressive evening.
- Juliana Park (Fairfax Station, Va./Davidson Day) led the Yellow Jackets in scoring with 13 points. The senior also pulled down six rebounds and had two steals.
- Smith ended the night with 12 points, seven rebounds and an assist.
- Kagey scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds.
- Bella Bruce (Herndon, Va./Westfield) was a force on defense tonight with seven rebounds and four blocked shots.
