Three Jackets Record Season-Highs in Battle at BC

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Three Yellow Jackets register season-highs as RMC Women's Volleyball fell to Bridgewater in a five-set match on Saturday.

How it Happened
  • Bridgewater thrilled the home crowd early in the first set, jumping out to an 8-3 lead. The lead stretched to eight at 14-6. The Eagles held off the Yellow Jackets' attempt to trim the deficit as the lead remained heavily in Bridgewater's favor for the remainder of the set. BC took the opening frame 25-13.
  • A stretch of four straight points for BC took a 5-5 tie and move the score to 9-5 in the Eagles favor to open the second frame. RMC worked their way back to take the lead 14-13, but it was a battle through the ensuing points. BC led 19-18 before a 4-0 run helped grab the lead for the Yellow Jackets. They were able to win the final three points to take set two, 25-21.
  • Bridgewater earned six of the first seven points of the third set to take a commanding lead. RMC slowly cut the deficit to tie the score at nine, but BC answered with a 3-0 run. The Yellow Jackets once again were able to tie it at 17, but this time it was a 6-0 run for the Eagles that ultimately allowed them to cruise to the finish line, taking set three, 25-21.
  • For the first time in the match, RMC commanded a set from start to finish. After the score was tied 4-4, RMC burst out to a 12-4 lead which stayed the deficit for much of the set. The Yellow Jackets pushed the lead to double digits at 19-9 and rolled to a 25-18 set four win to force a deciding set five.
  • RMC grabbed an early lead for the second straight set, this time an 8-4 advantage. A stretch of seven straight points flipped the script, however, giving the Eagles an 11-8 lead. RMC couldn't cut the deficit to less than two points as Bridgewater won the match with a 15-12 set five win.
Inside the Numbers
  • Kylie Wilhelmi (Cherry Valley, Ill./Rockford Lutheran) totaled a season-high 27 kills and hit .290. She also had her eighth match with 10+ digs.
  • Maddy DeCandido (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) led the Yellow Jackets with 19 digs. She also had five assists and an ace.
  • Abby Linksy (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) registered a career-high 10 kills, while having a solo block and a block assist.
  • Milly Mach (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) dished out 39 assists, a season-high for the junior.
  • RMC registered five solo blocks and six aces.
