Seven Aces Pace Women's Vollleyball Against VWU

ASHLAND, Va. – Randolph-Macon Women's Volleyball totaled seven aces in a three set match against Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday night.
Score: Virginia Wesleyan 3, Randolph-Macon 0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-20)

How it Happened
  • VWU took five of the first six points of the match, taking control early in the first frame. The Yellow Jackets found their footing, posting a 4-2 run that brought the deficit back within two. The Marlins responded by regaining control, as stretches of three and four straight points helped VWU extend the lead to 15-8. RMC cut the deficit to three at 17-14, but VWU put the pedal down, earning eight of the final nine points of the set to take the stanza, 25-15.
  • The Yellow Jackets started fast in the second set, jumping out to a 6-3 lead after a 4-0 run. The Marlins answered with their own four-point swing and continued to build their lead throughout the set. RMC brought the score back within two points at 20-18, but five of the last six points went in favor of the Marlins to win set two, 25-19.
  • RMC sprung out to a 4-0 lead in the third set, but VWU responded with a 7-1 run to take a 7-5 lead. The Marlins held their lead through a 15-11 advantage until two stretches of three straight points gave RMC a 17-16 lead. VWU held RMC to just three more points the rest of the way, ending on a 5-0 run to earn the sweep with a 25-20 set three win.

  • RMC had seven aces to just three for the Marlins.
  • Kylie Wilhelmi (Cherry Valley, Ill./Rockford Lutheran) led RMC with 12 kills and nine digs.
  • Allison Lach (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) and Trinity Makley (Morrisville, N.C./Panther Creek) each had three service aces.
  • Makley added 12 assists, tied for a team high with Milly Mach (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory). Mach also had three block assists.
  • Lola Nolasco (Georgetown, Tex./Gateway College Prep) totaled a solo block and three block assists.
