How it Happened
  • The Yellow Jackets began the first set with control, taking an 8-4 lead early. Five of the next seven points went in favor of the Quakers to cut the deficit to one, but then RMC extended the lead back out to 17-10. The lead for the Yellow Jackets was 21-15 when the tide turned to Guilford, as they won five straight points, which then pushed out to 10 of the final 12 of the set to win set one, 25-23.
  • A 3-0 run helped RMC open the second set up 3-1, but it was followed by a 4-0 run for Guilford but was promptly answered by four straight from RMC to make the score 7-5. The momentum swings continued as Guilford won the next four points to take the lead and held the lead through a 13-11 advantage. RMC won 10 of the next 13 points to shift momentum in their favor, but like the first set, the Quakers didn't back down. A 5-0 run by GC tied the score at 22. RMC had set point at 24-23, but GC fought back with three straight points to win the set, 26-24.
  • RMC started quick again in the third set, taking a 6-2 lead. The lead kept growing as the Yellow Jackets doubled up the Quakers with a 14-7 advantage. Like the first two sets, the Quakers wouldn't go away without a fight. They rallied all the way back to tie the score at 21, shifting all momentum in their favor. RMC settled in, however, to win four of the final six points to take set three, 25-23, and avoid the sweep.
  • The fourth set was controlled by Guilford from the beginning. They took control with an 11-5 lead after a 6-0 run and never let the Yellow Jackets get back into it. GC used two more runs of four points and three points to secure the four-set win over RMC.
