WINCHESTER, Va. - Juliana Park (Fairfax Station, Va./Davidson Day) knocked down two crucial lay-ups, one at the end of the fourth period to send the game to overtime and another with one second left on the clock in overtime to seal a 72-70 overtime victory over Shenandoah on the road.

Venue: Winchester, Va.//James R. Wilkins Jr. Athletics Center//Shenandoah University
Records: Randolph-Macon (13-5, 10-2 ODAC), Shenandoah (14-4, 9-2 ODAC)

How it Happened:
  • In the first period, neither team would trail by more than two points for the first seven minutes. The score was tied at 9-9 on a lay-up by Jane Elkins (Annandale, Va./Bishop Ireton) with 2:55 remaining in the period. The Elkins shot propelled the Yellow Jackets on an 8-0 two minute run that saw multiple players record baskets in route to a 15-9 lead with 1:02 left on the clock. Gabby Krystofiak knocked down a three-pointer to pull the Hornets within three points at 15-12, at the end of the first period.
  • Randolph-Macon opened up the second period on a quick 6-2 run, as Elkins provided four of the points, to extend the Yellow Jacket lead to 21-14 with 7:45 remaining in the half. Shenandoah tied up the game 21-21 on a Maggie Rooklin three ball to capped a 7-0 run. Rooklin hit another three right after a Sam Smith (Chesterfield, Va./St. Gertrudes) jumper to give the Hornets a 24-23 with 4:29 remaining. Her three powered the next six points for SU to give them a 30-23 lead with just over two minutes on the clock. The Lemon and Black did not go into the locker room with a deficit, as a Park and Elkins 7-0 run sent the game into halftime tied up at 30-30 all.
  • The game of runs continued, with RMC scoring seven of the first nine points of the third period to take the lead back 37-32 with 6:05 remaining. Maddie Kimble knocked down two three-pointers to lead Shenandoah on a 8-0 run, as the Hornets took a 40-37 lead. Randolph-Macon kept the game within five points at the end of the third period down 45-41, heading into the final ten minutes of regulation.

Terese Greene took matters into her own hands for the Hornets and scored the next six points, capped off by two free-throws with :34 seconds left with a 70-70 game.
