Women's Volleyball Falls in Tuesday Tilt Against CNU

ASHLAND, Va. – Randolph-Macon Women's Volleyball battled Christopher Newport on Tuesday night in Ashland. After three close sets, the Captains took down RMC to earn the win.
The Basics:

How it Happened:
  • Randolph-Macon won four of the first five points of the opening set but CNU quickly evened the score at five. The lead changed hands multiple times through the first set but a pair of CNU kills forced RMC to call a timeout down 16-14. The largest lead of the set came at 21-17 in favor of CNU, but RMC brought it back to one point with a trio of kills but the Captains clinched the set by winning the next four points.
  • The second set was close as well. RMC came out of a timeout down 15-13 and immediately went on a 3-0 run to take a one-point lead. CNU stormed back from a one-point deficit to take a two-point lead at 23-21 and finished the set winning two of the next three points to take a commanding two-set lead.
  • RMC opened the third set with vengeance, running out to a 6-1 lead, quickly. The largest lead of the set came at the end of a 5-0 run for the Yellow Jackets to make the lead 20-13 in their favor. CNU stormed back from a 22-15 deficit to tie it before RMC could break the run with a 2-0 run of their own. CNU took the set with a 4-0 run to end it and sweep RMC.
By the Numbers:
  • Maddy DeCandido (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) led RMC with 21 digs on the night.
  • Reigning ODAC Player of the Week Grace Parker (Andover, N.J./Pope John XXIII) totaled 16 kills and 10 digs.
  • Mia Zazzero (Tampa, Fla./Holy Names) and Jordynn Little (Apex, N.C./Green Level) both had two blocks.

  • RMC will host Randolph tomorrow night for a 7:00 p.m. matchup in Ashland.
