RMC Women's Volleyball Earns Split in Captains Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Randolph-Macon women's volleyball team continued the weekend in Newport News facing two more opponents in Mount St. Joseph and Muskingum. After falling in game one to MSJ, the Yellow Jackets handled business in game two against Muskingum.
The Basics:
Scores: Mount St. Joseph , Randolph-Macon 0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-22)            Randolph-Macon 3, Muskingum 1 (25-17, 25-16, 19-25, 25-21)

Records: Mount St. Joseph (2-0, 0-0 HCAC), Randolph-Macon (1-2, 0-0 ODAC), Muskingum (0-4, 0-0 OAC)
How it Happened vs MSJ:
  • MSJ led for a majority of the first set despite efforts to comeback from RMC, but the Yellow Jackets rallied from down 21-15 to take the lead 22-21 late. MSJ won the back-and-forth in the final points to take set one, 26-24.
  • In set two, the Yellow Jackets held a close lead at various points until MSJ took a 19-18 lead and didn't look back, winning set two, 25-20.
  • Similarly to the second set, RMC held a lead out of the gate but remained close throughout. Once again, MSJ found a way to take a lead late with three straight points to close it out, sweeping the Yellow Jackets.
By the Numbers vs MSJ:
  • Grace Parker (Andover, N.J./Pope John XXIII) led the way with 11 kills and 19 digs.
  • Megan Bost (Angier, N.C./West Johnston) had her second straight game with double-digit kills with 10. She also had two blocks.
  • Kaitlyn Kaplan (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Collegiate) dished out 15 assists after leading the Yellow Jackets last night.
  • Mia Zazzero (Tampa, Fla./Holy Names) was a force at the net with three blocks.
  • RMC forced just a .103 hitting percentage in the match.
How it Happened vs Muskingum:
  • The Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early lead in the opening set with Megan Bost providing four kills on her first five swings. Jordynn Little (Apex, N.C./Green Level) and Kaitlyn Kaplan helped power RMC the rest of the way to take the first set handily.
  • The second set was similar to the first with RMC pulling out to a lead early in the set and didn't look back. Parker, Bost, and Little all pitched in to help the Lemon and Black take a commanding two sets to none lead.
  • The third set was controlled by Muskingum throughout, as they took an early lead and didn't allow the Yellow Jackets to come back.
  • RMC fought through a tight fourth set, finally pulling away in the back half of the set and ending the set on a 6-1 run that gave the Yellow Jackets a 3 sets to 1 victory.
By the Numbers vs Muskingum:
  • Megan Bost shined again as she totaled 20 kills with just two errors, finishing with a .514 hitting percentage.
  • Grace Parker finished with 17 kills and 22 digs, both season-highs through three games.
  • Kaitlyn Kaplan tallied a career-high 46 assists, setting the tone for the Yellow Jackets.
  • RMC hit a season-best .300 and had nine service aces in route to victory.
Up Next:
  • RMC will head to Lexington on Friday for four matches at Washington and Lee over the next weekend, beginning with a battle with Maryville at 2:00 p.m. on Friday.
