HARRISONBURG, Va. - Randolph-Macon women's basketball team defeated the Eastern Mennonite Royals 58-31, to open up Old Dominion Athletic Conference play, behind double-doubles by
Catherine Kagey (Roanoke, Va./Faith Christian) and
Jane Elkins (Annandale, Va./Bishop Ireton).

How it Happened
- Randolph-Macon started the game with a quick three-pointer Juliana Park (Fairfax Station, Va./Davidson Day) to get the game going. Elkins knocked down two free throws at the 6:22 mark in the first period to give the Yellow Jackets its biggest lead 8-4.
- Kagey helped the Lemon and Black end the period on a 10-2 run, accounting for five of those points. Randolph-Macon held the Royals to 21 percent shooting from the field, while forcing four turnovers to take a 15-6 lead after one period.
- The Yellow Jackets continued the effort on both ends of the court in the second period, going on a 12-0 run. Kagey went on another tear, scoring half of the points on the run to give RMC a 27-6 lead with 4:55 left. Both teams traded baskets for the remainder of the period, but Randolph-Macon would take a commanding 34-13 lead into the halftime break.
- Kagey finished the first half with a double-double with 12 points and eight rebounds. The senior also recorded two steals and an assist in just the first 20 minutes of the game.
- Randolph-Macon success continued in the third period outscoring the Royals 13-6. Elkins found success around the rim, scoring six points to move her total to 17 in just three quarters. Offense was key as well in the period, as RMC shot 6-for-8 from the field to up the lead to 47-19.
- Emion Byers (Louisa County, Va./Louisa) led the Yellow Jackets in the final period, scoring six points to lead to a 58-31 win for RMC.
Inside the Numbers
- Randolph-Macon shot 37.7% from the floor as Eastern Mennonite struggled, only knocking down 18.6% of their shots.
- Kagey notched her 20th double-double of her career. The Roanoke native was perfect from the field, going 4-for-4 to finish with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
- Elkins ended the night with 17 points, 10 rebounds and four steals. The sophomore made nine of ten shots from the free throw line in the game.
- Byers scored six of her eight points in the fourth period, to go along with three rebounds.
