Three Skinner Take-Aways Help #10 RMC Football Win at BC

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Senior linebacker Tony Skinner (Spotsylvania, Va./Riberbend) had a pair of interceptions and a fumble recovery that led to 17 points as No. 10 Randolph-Macon posted a 38-3 ODAC victory at Bridgewater on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened:
  • The Yellow Jackets were forced to punt on their first possession and the Eagles were able to move to the RMC30. Senior linebacker Tony Skinner (Spotsylvania, Va./Riverbend) picked off his third pass of the season and gave the visitors the ball at the RMC44. Senior quarterback Drew Campanale (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury) hit senior wide receiver JoJo Marinella (Franklin, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) with a 56-yard touchdown pass to give the Yellow Jackets a 7-0 lead 4:15 remaining in the first period.
  • Skinner snagged another interception that led to a 30-yard field goal by junior Kyle Ihle (Apex, N.C./Middle Creek) as the Yellow Jackets went up 10-0 with 2:17 left in the first quarter.
  • Following a BC punt, Campanale connected with Marinella on a 20-yard scoring pass as RMC took a 17-0 lead early in the second period.
  • BC turned a muffed punt into a 37-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 17-3 with 8:41 remaining until intermission. The Yellow Jackets took eight minutes off the clock in driving 82 yards in 13 plays as senior tailback Kwesi Clarke (Reigelwood, N.C./North Brunswick) slashed in from one yard out as RMC went up 24-3 at the half.
  • The Eagles fumbled on their second snap of the second half and Skinner pounced on the ball at the RMC43 for his third take-away of the contest. The Yellow Jackets took 10 plays to reach the end zone, as Clarke scored from eight yards out between outstanding blocks by senior guard Chris Desmond (New Market, Md./Oakdale) and junior guard Storm James (Greenville, N.C./JH Rose) to make it 31-3 with nine minutes left in the third period.
  • Sophomore running back Mitchell Johnson (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) had the final TD on a five-yard run with seven minutes left in the game to make the final 38-3.
By The Numbers:
  • The RMC defense held BC to 24 net yards rushing. It was the fourth time the Yellow Jackets held an opponent below 25 yards on the ground. RMC entered the game as the nation's leader in rushing defense at 25.0 yards per game.
  • The Yellow Jackets had 416 yards of total offense, with 194 on the ground and 222 through the air.
  • Senior running back Nick Hale (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) had 13 carries for 52 yards. Sophomore running back Cameron Chatmon (Willow Spring, N.C./Green Level) ran seven times for 48 yards. Johnson has seven rushes for 47 yards and one TD. Clarke carries nine times for 38 yards and two scores.
  • Campanale completed 16 of 23 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns. Marinella had seven receptions for 116 yards and two TDs.
  • RMC held the ball for 35:01.  The Yellow Jackets kept the ball for 27:47 for the final three periods compared to 17:13 for the Eagles. RMC entered the game ninth in the nation in time of possession at 34:45.erf

  • The Yellow Jackets have scored at least 30 points in each of their past 24 games, the longest stretch in program history.
  • RMC is +15 in turnover margin, an average of 2.5. The Yellow Jackets entered the game fourth in the nation with +2.4 turnover margin. RMC has 14 take-aways in the past three contests.
