ASHLAND, Va. -- The Randolph-Macon men's swimming team returned from a hiatus that lasted 33 days as they took the road to Bridgewater College on Friday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets fell to the Eagles 122-83.
Individually, R-MC won three events, two by Ben Pastva (Fairfax, Va./Robinson). They also took second in five other events.
Pastva earned a personal best in the 50 free, picking up a first-place finish with a time of 24.26. He followed that up with a win in the 100 free, posting a 56.12 time to pick up nine more points.
Evan Fannin (Hayes, Va./Christchurch) grabbed the third win for the Yellow Jackets. Fannin finished first in the 100 fly, finishing in 1:01.75.
Alex Richardson (Vero Beach, Fla./Vero Beach) picked up two of the five individual second-place finishes for R-MC. He finished second in the two long races, once in the 400 free, with a time of 4:26.61 and another in the 800 free, finishing in 9:01.02.
The other three silver medals came from Matthew Appleton (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponox) in the 200 free with a time of 2:06.37, Aidan Campbell (Newport News, Va./Warwick) in the 200 IM with a time of 2:22.59, and Jacob Wills (Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) picking up a personal best in the 100 back, finishing in 1:02.05. Appleton also picked up a third-place finish in the 100 free.
Sebastian Florez (Richmond, Va./JR Tucker) in the 800 free (9:46.49) and Carter Bingman (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) in the 200 free (2:10.20) and the 100 fly (1:04.85) round out the podium finishes for R-MC with bronze medals.
In relays, R-MC finished second in the 200 medley relay in 1:54.26 with a relay team of Wills, Ryan Deavers (Broadway, Va./Broadway), Campbell, and Fannin. The Yellow Jackets also finished second in the 200 free relay in 1:41.38, narrowly missing first place with a team of Pastva, Fannin, Richardson, and Wills.
The Yellow Jackets are right back in action Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. for a meet against Marymount in Ashland.
