Parker's Record Night Pushes Yellow Jackets to 3-1 Over Lynchburg

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph-Macon women's volleyball team looked strong on both sides of the net, winning 3-1 over Lynchburg on the road at Turner Gym. Grace Parker (Andover, N.J./Pope John XXIII) filled the stat sheet recording 32 kills, second most in a single match in school history, en route to surpassing the 1,000 career kills mark.

The Basics:

Scores: Randolph-Macon 3, Lynchburg 1 (30-28, 22-25, 25-14, 25-13)

Location/Venue: Lynchburg, Va./Turner Gym

Records: Randolph-Macon 11-2 (4-1 ODAC), Lynchburg 6-8 (2-3 ODAC)

How It Happened:

  • The first stanza saw the longest single set for either team this year, as the two sides combined for 58 combined points in the set. Randolph-Macon used late kills from Parker and Megan Bost (Angier, N.C./West Johnson) to claim the set 30-28.
  • The Hornets answered the call in the second set to knot things up at a set, apiece. Lynchburg closed the set out with a kill from Abbi Leeper and an R-MC error in hopes of getting back into the match.
  • The R-MC hitters came alive in the third set, raising their hitting percentage to over .280 while holding Lynchburg to a hitting percentage of zero to take full control of the affair.
  • The fourth set saw Randolph-Macon's effort on the offensive side continue to shine, as the Yellow Jackets recorded 14 kills in just 27 swings in the frame.

Inside The Numbers:

  • Parker led the way for the Yellow Jackets with 32 kills and 9 digs, while Leslie Currie (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) tallied 18 digs of her own to lead the way on the defensive side.
  • Jasmin Hanson (Aspen, Colo./Aspen) had a strong showing on the defensive side tonight as well, recording 16 digs and standing as the best performance for the senior
  • Milly Mach (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) found success in multiple ways as well, recording a pair of kills as the setter while also amassing 35 assists.

Up Next:

  • The Yellow Jackets have a quick turnaround before its next Old Dominion Athletic Conference affair, as they play hosts to Ferrum Friday, September 30. The action is set for a 6:00 p.m. start inside of Crenshaw Gym as part of the Family Weekend celebration at Randolph-Macon.
