Women's Volleyball Shines in Pivotal 3-1 Win over Virginia Wesleyan

Box Score

ASHLAND, Va. – Randolph-Macon women's volleyball shined in a pivotal match early in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play, as it took just four sets to best a Virginia Wesleyan team that was picked to finish second in the ODAC Wednesday Night at Crenshaw Gymnasium. The win marks nine in a row for Head Coach Bill Rogers and his team.

The Basics:

Scores: Randolph-Macon 3, Virginia Wesleyan 1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-17, 25-17)

Location/Venue: Ashland, Va./Crenshaw Gym

Records: Randolph-Macon (9-1, 2-0 ODAC), Virginia Wesleyan (8-4, 1-1 ODAC)

How It Happened:

  • The opening set saw Randolph-Macon take control down the stretch as two kills from Grace Parker (Andover, N.J./Pope John XXIII) gave the Yellow Jackets the cushion needed to take the first stanza.
  • The second stanza saw Virginia Wesleyan answer back to knot the match up at a set, apiece. The stanza was tied at 17 all, but the Marlins used a handful of big plays from Morgan Ludovici to turn close out the set.
  • The Yellow Jackets answered the call in the third set, quickly taking the momentum back and claiming a commanding two sets to one lead. Bailey Johnson (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) made her presence known, finding success on the outside throughout the stanza.
  • Randolph-Macon would be called on to make plays down the stretch of the fourth set, as Virginia Wesleyan used a little run before the Yellow Jackets found the final point on a Mia Zazzero (Tampa, Fla./Holy Names) kill.

Inside The Numbers:

  • Grace Parker (Andover, N.J./Pope John XXIII) led the way for the Yellow Jackets with 14 kills, while Leslie Currie (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) tallied 12 digs to lead the way on the defensive side.
  • Milly Mach (Chesapeake, Va./Hickory) again shined with 20 assists along side her Freshman counterpart Kaitlyn Kaplan (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Collegiate), who recorded 16.
  • Gracyn Draney (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest) recorded five kills in just nine attempts to impress with a .556 hitting percentage.

Up Next:

  • The Yellow Jackets will play hosts to Averett in another Old Dominion Athletic Conference tilt Friday, September 23. The action is set for a 6:30 p.m. start inside of Crenshaw Gym.
