With this being the second game in the series, the Warriors were the visitors on the scoreboard and hit first. Their bats got off to a fast start as Brooke Matyasovsky hit a two-run home run to center three batters in.
-
Julia SanGiovanni followed with a double to center before being brought in on a single to center from Alexis Michon.
-
Kayla Davis (Fr., Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) put the Lemon and Black in scoring position as she led off the bottom of the second with a double to left field. Cameron Hildebrand (Jr., Fincastle, Va. / James River) pinch ran for her, but could not take advantage as the next three batters were retired in order.
-
ECSU eventually went up 4-0 on a fielder's choice sac bunt, but a heads up play by Sami Davidson (Sr., Stafford, Va. / Brooke Point) helped prevent further damage as she connected with Olivia Owens (So., Salisbury, Md. / James M. Bennett) to tag out the hitter Carley Stoker in her attempt to stretch out another base.
-
A highlight for the Yellow Jacket defense came in the fifth inning when Gracie Ellis (Fr., New Kent, Va. / New Kent) and ECSU's Alexis Tyrrell had a lengthy faceoff with a 14-pitch at-bat. After fouling off multiple pitches, Tyrrell was eventually retired on a spectacular dive from Jessica Pittman (Jr., Virginia Beach, Va. / Kempsville).
-
Rilee Baughan (Jr., Warsaw, Va. / Rappahannock) singled in the fourth and Amanda Lanyon (Fr., Midlothian, Va. / Midlothian) hit an infield single before stealing second to spark some life into the Yellow Jacket dugout, but R-MC could get no closer.
