The Yellow Jackets are 4-1 against teams in the 2022 NCAA Tournament. R-MC defeated Hood, Emory, Marietta and Averett. The lone loss for the Yellow Jackets this season was a one-point defeat in overtime at Christopher Newport.

R-MC made its 27th appearance in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament and owns a 24-30 tourney mark. The Yellow Jackets made nine trips to the Division II Tournament from 1965-1985, going 6-14. This is the 18th trip to the Division III Tournament from 1990 to 2022, going 18-16.

Coaching Connections
Current R-MC assistant coach Brett Barron played at DeSales from 2014-18. He received a Bachelor of Science in Sport & Exercise Physiology in 2018. Bradley Jacks, a Yellow Jacket assistant coach during the 2018-19 season, played at Babson. He helped the Beavers win the National Championship in 2017.

Last Time Out
Buzz Anthony had 18 points and six assists, while Miles Mallory recorded his 10th double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 assists, as No. 1 R-MC beat No. 3 VWU 74-59 in the 2022 ODAC Tournament title game.
How it Happened:
• The Marlins scored the first four points before a three-pointer by Anthony got R-MC on the scoreboard. Following a jumper by VWU, Anthony hit David Funderburg on a layup. R-MC trailed 10-7 before a trey by Anthony and a jumper by Mallory gave R-MC a 12-10 edge with 15:10 remaining in the first half. The Marlins hit a triple to go up one before Anthony found Will Coble underneath for a layup to give Anthony the program record for career assists with 748. A jumper by Mallory gave the Yellow Jackets a 16-13 lead with 12 minutes left. After a VWU three-pointer tied it, Anthony and Daniel Mbangue had layups to give R-MC a 20-16 edge with 10:40 remaining. The Yellow Jackets had a 27-26 lead before a layup by Ian Robertson, a jumper by Mallory and a steal and dunk by Josh Talbert put R-MC up 33-26 with 3:25 left. VWU ended the half on a 10-4 spurt and trailed 37-36 at the break.
• Mbangue had a layup and a follow prior to a three-pointer by Anthony and a layup by Talbert as R-MC started the second half on a 16-4 run to take a 53-40 lead with 14:30 remaining. After five straight points by VWU, Mallory scored in the paint, Mbangue converted a three-point play and Robertson hit a triple as the advantage grew to 16 at 61-45 with 11:20 left. The Marlins closed to within 12 before a triple by DaQuan Morris capped a 7-2 spurt as R-MC led 74-57 with 3:45 left. VWU had the last score of the game to make the final 74-59.

With its victory over Hampden-Sydney, R-MC won its fifth straight ODAC regular season crown in a full season.

R-MC is first in the ODAC and second in the nation in scoring defense, allowing 59.0 points per game. Over the past 10 contests, opponents have scored an average of 56.9 points per game. R-MC has held six of its past seven opponents to 60 points or less, including each of the three foes in the ODAC Tournament. The Yellow Jackets were first in the ODAC and fourth in the nation a season ago, allowing 58.2 points per contest. R-MC led the nation in scoring defense two seasons ago at 57.3 points per game.

ODAC Player of the Week
Buzz Anthony was named ODAC Player of the Week on Feb. 14 for the third time this season. Anthony averaged 28.5 points and 7.0 assists in two victories, shooting 69% from the floor and 68.4% on treys. He had 25 points and eight assists in an 81-50 win at Bridgewater, including 20 points in the second half. Anthony matched his career high with 32 points in a 102-60 Senior Day win over Shenandoah at Crenshaw Gym.
Bevo Francis Award Watch List
Buzz Anthony and Miles Mallory are both on the Bevo Francis Award Top 50 Watch List. The award is presented annually to the player who has had the finest overall season within Small College Basketball (NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA Division I, NAIA Division II, USCAA, NCCAA).
