How It Happened (Game 1)
- Although the Yellow Jackets poured on the runs in the opener, they actually had to come from behind to do it as the WildCats took a 5-2 lead after three innings and 6-4 after four.
- R-MC started dealing the damage in the fifth when they put up an eight-spot on Randolph. Kayla Horesky (Jr., Woodbridge, Va. / Colgan) started the scoring as she took one for the team with a bases loaded hit by pitch pinch hitting to make the score 6-5. Maddy Bates (So., Arlington, Va. / Bishop O'Connell) tied the game in the next at-bat with a single to right that scored Olivia Owens (So., Salisbury, Md. / James M. Bennett).
- Amanda Lanyon (Fr., Midlothian, Va. / Midlothian) brought in the go-ahead run as she went through the left side to bring in Bailey Hairfield (So., Chesterfield, Va. / Cosby). Rilee Baughan (Jr., Warsaw, Va. / Rappahannock) proceeded to clear the bases with a triple to left that brought in Lanyon, Bates, and Arianna Prymak (Fr., Woodbridge, Va. / Woodbridge) who was pinch running for Horesky.
- That made the score 10-6, but the Jackets weren't done as Kayla Davis (Fr., Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) hit a sac fly to right to score Baughan. Three batters later, another triple plated the final Jackets run as Owens brought in Natalie Robinson (Jr., Woodbridge, Va. / Forest Park) who walked after the sac fly.
- A WildCats run made it 12-7 after the fifth, but R-MC kept the pressure on. In the sixth R-MC added three more runs with all of them coming with two outs. Baughan helped her own cause again with a single through the left side to score Ellie Barton (Fr., Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) before Davis brought her in on a double down the third base line. Robinson capped the scoring with a single to center that brought in Elliott who was pinch running for Davis.
Inside The Numbers (Game 1)
- Baughan provided most of the damage from the plate in the opener with a monstrous 4-for-5 game with five RBIs and three runs scored. She helped her own cause as she got the win in the circle to improve to 6-0 on the season.
- Davis also had a big game with three RBIs as she was 2-for-4 in the opener.
- Owens reached base each time at the plate as she was 2-for-2 with a pair of walks. She had one RBI and scored a pair of runs. Naomi Sadler (Fr., Emporia, Va. / Brunswick) had similar numbers with a base hit, two walks, and two runs scored.
- Barton also scored a pair of runs after a 2-for-3 game.
How It Happened (Game 2)
- The nightcap was also close in the early goings as both teams plated a run in the first and remained tied until the fourth. Sadler broke the standoff as she scored on a bases-loaded fielder's choice by Jessica Pittman (Jr., Virginia Beach, Va. / Kempsville).
- Bates plated a pair of runs in the top of the fifth with a double to left to bring in Sadler once again as well as Prymak. In the sixth the Jackets made the score 6-1 after Lanyon tripled in Barton. One batter later Lanyon scored on a Baughan sac fly.
- The finishing touches came in the top of the seventh. Lanyon again got the offense churning with a single to left that scored Bates. Baughan followed up with a single to the same area to score Pittman. Davis tripled in the final two runs to set the final score at 10-1.
Inside The Numbers (Game 2)
- The top three hitters for the Jackets all had two RBIs, while the top two also scored twice. Baughan had another great game going 1-for-2 with a pair of walks in the two spot.
- Lanyon was 3-for-4 as the leadoff hitter. Bates and Barton joined her with multiple hits in the second game. Bates also had a pair of RBIs.
- Sierra Livingston (So., Dagsboro, Del. / Sussex Tech) got the start and picked up her first decision of the year with the win. She allowed the one run on seven hits and a walk.
- The Jackets hit two triples in both games on the day. It's the only time this season they've hit more than one in a game. It's the first time they've hit more than one in a game since April 6, 2019, against Shenandoah. Coincidentally they hit two in both games against the Hornets that day as well.
- For the day, Baughan went 5-for-7 with seven RBIs, five runs scored, a double, a triple, and two walks. She is now on a five game hit streak with 10 hits over that stretch.
- Lanyon is also on a tear with 11 hits over the last five games.
