Second Half Proves Difference on the Road at Lynchburg

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph Macon women's soccer team fell short on the road Saturday afternoon, falling 2-0 to Lynchburg after two second-half goals from the Hornets.

The Basics:

Score: Lynchburg 2, Randolph-Macon 0

Location/Venue: Lynchburg, Va./Shellenberger Field

Records: Randolph-Macon 11-5-2 (6-3-1 ODAC), Lynchburg 9-3-6, (7-1-2 ODAC)

How it Happened:

  • Randolph-Macon found two shots in the first stanza, but was unable to gain the advantage at the midway break. Abby Cook (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen) was called on multiple times in the half, seeing eight shots and recording two saves.
  • Lynchburg found the first goal of the game as Maddy Myers called her own number and found the back of the net from distance to give the Hornets the advantage in the 59th minute.
  • The Yellow Jackets were left to find an equalizer while Lynchburg looked to double the advantage. Mac Joly was the lucky patron as she took a Megan Dee delivery right in front of the net and finished it to double the Hornets advantage and put the match away.

By The Numbers:

  • Cook finished the contest with four saves for Randolph-Macon, seeing just under 72 minutes as the Yellow Jacket netminder.
  • Ariel Farmer (Chesterfield, Va./Clover Hill) led the way for Randolph-Macon in terms of chances, as the forward recorded two shots on goal.
  • Lynchburg recorded 20 shots across the 90 minutes, 12 of those coming in the final stanza.

Up Next:

  • Randolph-Macon will now turn its attention to postseason play, as the Yellow Jackets finished Old Dominion Athletic Conference play as the fifth seed. R-MC will make a return trip to Lynchburg in the Quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament Tuesday, November 1 at Shellenberger Field. A game time has not yet been determined for that match.
