Field Hockey Drops Regular Season Finale to No. 14 Shenandoah

Box Score

ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon field hockey team hosted Shenandoah University for the final game of the regular season on Saturday night. The Hornets netted five goals to take down the Yellow Jackets.

The Basics:

Score: Shenandoah 5, Randolph-Macon 0

Location/Venue: Ashland, Va./Randolph-Macon College/Nunnally Field

Records: Randolph-Macon (7-11, 3-5 ODAC), Shenandoah (16-2, 7-1 ODAC)

How it Happened:

  • Randolph-Macon kept the Hornets offense at bay for the first eight minutes of the game, as possession flipped back and forth until the Hornets opened the scoring 8:30 into the game.
  • The Hornets added two more goals in the second frame. One of which was a penalty stroke, one of three given up on the day by R-MC.
  • Both second half goals for the Hornets came on penalty strokes as well as the R-MC defense held SU from finding the back of the cage otherwise.
  • Two fourth quarter penalty corners for the Yellow Jackets came up short as they were met by a strong SU defense.
  • Ashlyn White (Frederick, Md./Urbana) picked up a defensive save, stopping a ball that got past the keeper to keep the Hornets from scoring.

Inside the Numbers:

  • Goalkeeper Kelsey Seiler (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) picked up six saves on the evening, weathering the storm of the Hornets offense.
  • White's defensive save in the second half was her first of her two-year career.
  • Anna Stribling (Annandale, Va./W.T. Woodson) had the lone shot on goal for the Yellow Jackets, putting pressure on the Hornets from the midfield.

Up Next:

Randolph-Macon has the 6-seed in the ODAC tournament and will head to tournament play as they travel to 3-seed Shenandoah for the first round on Tuesday. The time has not been announced.
