Box Score 2 NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Randolph-Macon Women's Volleyball earned a big 3-0 sweep of non-conference foe Messiah before falling to Christopher Newport, 3-1, to close out the afternoon in Newport News.

How It Happened (Match 1 vs. Messiah):
- Randolph-Macon found themselves up 16-10 midway through the first set before a 9-2 run saw the Yellow Jackets take control of the first set and lay claim to 1-0 lead early.
- The second set went the way of Randolph-Macon as well, as the Yellow Jackets carried the momentum and closed the second set with the final four points to see out a two-set lead. It was Grace Parker (Andover, N.J./Pope John XXIII) and Gracyn Draney (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest) that had kills to see the segment through.
- Messiah had the most success in the third set as they found 20 points, but the Randolph-Macon defense was able to hold the Falcons to a .085 hitting percentage. The Yellow Jackets again looked strong in the later half of the set, earning the 3-0 sweep.
Inside The Numbers (Match 1 vs. Messiah):
- Parker led the way for the Yellow Jackets with 17 kills and 12 digs, enough for a double-double while Leslie Currie (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) tallied 15 digs to shine on the defensive side.
- Jasmin Hanson (Aspen, Colo./Aspen) found success on the defensive side of the net as well for R-MC, recording 11 digs.
- Megan Bost (Angier, N.C./West Johnson) was efficient on the other side of the net, recording seven winners in just 17 swings for a .353 hitting percentage.
How It Happened (Match 2 vs. Christopher Newport):
- Each set was well contested from both sides, but it was the Captains that took the 1-0 lead after holding off a late Randolph-Macon push.
- It again was Christopher Newport that recorded the final point in the second set as the Yellow Jackets cut it to just six late in the set, but the Captains used a Julia Gleason kill to claim the commanding two-set lead.
- Randoph-Macon would answer the call in the third set to extend the match, as the Yellow Jackets found the final two points of the stanza after CNU came to within two.
- The fourth set needed extra volleyball to be determined after CNU erased a 24-21 deficit to force the extra points. Ashlyn Knott's (Clarksville, Va./Bluestone) kill brought Randolph-Macon level at 26 in hopes of forcing a deciding fifth set, but the Captains used two kills to claim the match.
Inside The Numbers (Match 2 vs. Christopher Newport):
- It was Parker that led the way yet again for Randolph-Macon, recording a team-high 20 kills, while Knott amassed nine and Bost had eight of her own.
- Currie had a strong showing on the defensive side of the net for the Yellow Jackets, amassing a season-high 36 digs in just four sets.
