ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon field hockey team hosted fellow ODAC member Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday night. The Yellow Jackets scored a late goal to grab a much-needed conference win.

The Basics:

Score: Randolph-Macon 1, Virginia Wesleyan 0

Records: Randolph-Macon (5-8, 2-2 ODAC), Virginia Wesleyan (2-8, 0-3 ODAC)

How it Happened:

• It was all Yellow Jackets from the opening whistle, pouring on six shots in the opening two frames. The Marlins goalkeeper was a driving force in keeping the game scoreless, stopping all eight shots on goal in the first half.
• The second half was more of the same as R-MC dominated the possession, amassing 11 shots on goal in the third quarter, but once again, none could light up the scoreboard.
• The Yellow Jackets finally broke through late in the fourth quarter as Alaina McCoy (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) tallied a goal off a dish from Summer Kujawa (Hampton, Va./Kechoughtan).

Inside the Numbers:

• Overall, R-MC outshot the Marlins 29-4, while also winning the shots on goal battle 21-3.
• The team leaders in scoring added onto their totals as McCoy's goal was her sixth of the year and Kujawa's assist was also her sixth of the year, both leading the Yellow Jackets.
• Kelsey Seiler (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) notched just three saves in the contest but that was all that was needed for her second shutout of the season.
