Parker Again Stars in Five-Set Triumph Over Roanoke

Box Score

ASHLAND, Va. – Randolph-Macon women's volleyball used a strong effort in the fifth and final set of the match to complete the comeback bid and best visiting Roanoke, 3-2, as part of Family Weekend festivities on campus. Grace Parker (Andover, N.J./Pope John XXIII) continues her tear in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play, recording 34 kills to tie the school record for kills in a single match.

The Basics:

Scores: Randolph-Macon 3, Roanoke 2 (25-14, 22-25, 19-25, 25-19, 15-9)

Location/Venue: Ashland, Va./Crenshaw Gym

Records: Randolph-Macon (13-2, 6-1 ODAC), Roanoke (8-7, 3-4 ODAC)

How It Happened:

  • The opening set saw Randolph-Macon take control down the stretch as the Yellow Jackets were swinging with much success, finishing the stanza with a .345 hitting percentage while holding Roanoke to a .027 percentage.
  • The second stanza saw Roanoke answer back to knot the match up at a set, apiece. The stanza was tied at 18 all, but the Maroons used a handful of big serves from Peyton Kirchner to close out the set.
  • Roanoke found success throughout the third set as well, as Kirchner and Jordan Gorman found success serving once again down the stretch to take the 2-1 advantage.
  • Randolph-Macon would be called on to make plays down the stretch of the fourth set to keep the match alive, and they did just that. Ashlynn Knott (Clarksville, Va./Bluestone) closed the set out with two kills to keep the Yellow Jackets in it as the offense found some life.
  • The fifth set was a thriller with both teams matching the other as neither team was able to build a lead of more than two until the final few points. Things were knotted up at nine apiece before Randolph-Macon found the final six points of the frame to clinch the match.

Inside The Numbers:

  • Parker led the way for the Yellow Jackets with 34 kills, tying a school record, while Leslie Currie (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) tallied 19 digs to lead the way on the defensive side.
  • Jasmin Hanson (Aspen, Colo./Aspen) and Maddie DeCandido (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) also shined on the defensive side of the net, as Hanson recorded 13 digs to add to DeCandido's 12.
