Last Time Out

DaQuan Morris hit seven three-pointers for a career-high 21 points as R-MC closed the game on a 40-13 run over the final 15 minutes for an 83-63 ODAC win at Hampden-Sydney.

How it Happened:

The Tigers scored the first four points of the game before Ian Robertson nailed a trey to put the Yellow Jackets on the board. Daniel Mbangue had two free throws to give R-MC its first lead and his layup tied the game at 7-7 with 17:30 left in the first half. H-SC put up the next five points before consecutive treys by Morris gave R-MC a 13-12 edge with just under 13 minutes left. The Tigers would use a 14-4 run to take their largest lead at 26-17 with 7:10 left. A jumper in the paint by Josh Talbert and a pair of free throws by Buzz Anthony made up a 4-1 spurt as the visitors cut the deficit to six at 27-21 with 5:30 remaining. H-SC pushed the lead back to nine at 32-23 before a layup by Miles Mallory and two more treys by Morris made it a one-point game at 32-31 with 1:10 left. The Tigers would tally the final two buckets of the half and take a 36-31 lead at the break. Morris led all scorers with 12 points. H-SC scored four of the first six points in the second half before a pair of triples by Anthony pulled R-MC within one at 40-39 with 17:20 remaining. R-MC trailed 44-43 before the Tigers banked in a trey and hit a second three-pointer to push the lead back to seven at 50-43. Morris, Will Coble and Lance Johnson each had two treys in a 22-6 run as R-MC took a 65-56 lead with 6:50 left. H-SC closed within six at 67-61 before Anthony scored seven and Mallory added six as R-MC scored 16 straight points to go ahead 83-61 before posting the 83-63 win. R-MC outscored H-SC 40-13 over the final 15 minutes.

Last Meeting

Buzz Anthony shot 63% from the field, making 12 field goals and finishing with a season-high 30 points, as R-MC defeated Washington and Lee, clinching the outright ODAC regular-season title for the fourth straight year. Anthony opened the scoring for R-MC with the first bucket of the game, coming right off the tip-off.  The Generals responded with five straight points, all within the first 90 seconds. Both teams struggled to find a bucket for about two minutes of play after that. R-MC broke the scoreless streak with two straight buckets, which forced a W&L timeout. But out of the timeout, the teams battled nearly basket-for-basket, leading up to the 7:37 mark. After W&L pulled it to a 14-14 tie, Anthony got a hoop and harm, which started a 10-3 run for R-MC. The Yellow Jackets would maintain a seven-point lead at halftime, helped by a jumper by Miles Mallory right at the buzzer. W&L started out with a basket and a free throw to open the second frame. Korey Turner answered with a layup, but W&L cut the R-MC lead to three. Over the next minute though, R-MC got on a 7-0 run, which was the difference-maker for the game as W&L could never get on a run of its own to match. The Generals got as close as seven, but Mallory hit a jumper, followed by Anthony scoring two field goals, a basket by Turner and six points for Terry Woods, all part of a 14-3 run for the Yellow Jackets leading up to the 7:00 mark in the frame and giving R-MC a 60-42 lead. R-MC would finish with 12 more points, mostly from the free throw line, en route to the 72-50 win. Outside of Anthony's 30 points, Mallory finished with 12 points and Woods rallied for 11 points. Mallory completed the double-double with 10 rebounds. Mallory also added five blocks.
