R-MC leads 78-23 since 1956

R-MC has won nine straight, 20 of 22 and 32 of the past 36 meetings with the Eagles. The Yellow Jackets had three wins against BC a season ago. R-MC won at BC 74-56 in the non-conference season opener, won 99-68 in Ashland in a conference contest, and won 80-49 at BC in the quarterfinals of the 2021 ODAC Tournament. The Yellow Jackets were victorious twice two seasons ago, 97-55 on Dec. 4 in Ashland and 83-69 on Feb. 5 at Bridgewater. Josh Merkel is 9-1 against the Eagles.

Home Cookin'

With the victory over Lynchburg, R-MC extended its program record for home winning streak in Crenshaw Gym at 39. It is the longest current streak in Division III. R-MC previously won 32 straight in Crenshaw Gym from 1982-85. The overall program record for home winning streak is 50, from 1961-66.

Buzz Anthony now owns the R-MC program record with 212 career steals.

 

Last Time Out

Buzz Anthony had 17 points and eight assists as R-MC used a 46-10 run over a 16-minute span to win 86-48 at Ferrum.

How it Happened:

  • Miles Mallory had the first basket of the game for the Yellow Jackets. Josh Talbert hit a pair of free throws to give R-MC a 6-4 lead three minutes into the contest before five straight points by the Panthers gave the home team a 9-6 edge. FC had a 19-16 lead before a three-pointer by DaQuan Morris sparked an 11-0 run as the visitors went up 27-19 with 5:15 left in the first half. The Panthers hit a trey to pull within five before triples by Ian Robertson and Anthony gave the Yellow Jackets a 33-22 lead with four minutes remaining. After a bucket by FC, Anthony and Robertson had layups in the final minute to give R-MC a 37-24 halftime lead. The Yellow Jackets ended the half on a 21-5 run.
  • R-MC would start the second half with a 25-5 spurt, making it a 46-10 overall run, to take a 62-29 lead with 12:30 remaining. Robertson had a three-pointer to cap the rally. Anthony had seven points and Talbert had five early in the second half for the Yellow Jackets.  The Panthers tallied six straight points before Daniel Mbangue had seven points in a 12-0 run as R-MC went up 74-35 with 7:30 left. Loginn Norton had a three-point play to complete the scoring, making the final 86-48.

By The Numbers:

  • The Yellow Jackets had four players score in double figures. Anthony had 17, Robertson had 16, Mallory added 15 and Talbert tallied 13.

 

Last Meeting

Buzz Anthony led all scorers with 23 points, and Ben Cerrato tallied a season-high 14 points in his first collegiate start, as fifth-seeded R-MC defeated fourth-seeded Bridgewater 80-49 in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament.
How it Happened:

  • Ian Robertson nailed a three-pointer and Anthony converted a three-point play as the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead. A pair of free throws by Anthony gave R-MC a 13-3 advantage with 14:36 left in the first half. The Eagles closed to within six before three straight buckets by Anthony sparked a 12-2 spurt as the visitors led 25-9 with nine minutes remaining. The R-MC defense held BC scoreless over the final 3:40 of the first period, and a follow by Daniel Mbangue just before the buzzer gave the visitors a 39-19 lead at intermission. Anthony had 15 first-half points, while Mbangue pulled down eight rebounds and Miles Mallory grabbed seven.
  • Anthony hit a triple to start the second half, putting R-MC ahead 42-19. The Eagles closed to within 15 at 54-39 with 11 minutes remaining before the Yellow Jackets closed on a 26-10 run to claim the 80-49 victory.

By The Numbers:

  • Anthony went 9 for 16 from the floor, 2 for 5 on treys and 3 for 3 from the free throw line for his 23 points.
  • Mallory also scored in double figures with 11.

Buzz Anthony was USBWA National Player of the Week on Nov. 23. He had a career-high 32 points in 88-74 win over #13 Emory. He had his second double-double of the year with 15 points and 13 assists in an 82-74 win over #3 Marietta.
