With the victory over Lynchburg, R-MC extended its program record for home winning streak in Crenshaw Gym at 39. It is the longest current streak in Division III. R-MC previously won 32 straight in Crenshaw Gym from 1982-85. The overall program record for home winning streak is 50, from 1961-66.

Last Time Out

Buzz Anthony had 17 points and 10 rebounds as R-MC posted a 92-54 ODAC win at Shenandoah.

How it Happened:

  • The Hornets built an 8-4 lead three minutes into the contest before a three-pointer by Ian Robertson and a layup by Josh Talbert gave the Yellow Jackets their first lead at 9-8. R-MC led 13-12 before Will Coble nailed a trey and Anthony sank two triples to spark a 15-1 run as the visitors went up 28-13 with 7:30 left in the first half. A layup by Talbert gave R-MC a 36-20 advantage with 3:30 remaining. Another three-pointer by Robertson made it a 17-point lead at 39-22 with two minutes left. SU finished the scoring in the first half with a pair of free throws as R-MC took a 39-24 edge at intermission. Robertson hit four treys for 12 points, while Talbert added eight points with five assists.
  • SU hit a triple to start the second half before a three-pointer by Anthony and a three-point play by David Funderburg made it 45-27. After a bucket by the Hornets, Funderburg had a layup and Miles Mallory added a free throw as the lead grew to 19 at 48-29 with 16:45 left in regulation. The Yellow Jackets led 52-36 before a three-pointer by Coble and a layup by Talbert made it 57-36 with 13:30 remaining. A hook shot by Funderburg gave R-MC a 25-point cushion at 68-43 midway through the second period. Funderburg made a free throw to push the lead to 30 at 77-47 with 5:45 left. A follow by Noah Lindsay gave the Yellow Jackets their largest lead at 92-53 before a free throw by SU made the final score 92-54.

Last Meeting

Miles Mallory scored the final nine points of the game for R-MC in a 61-57 win at Ferrum. A jumper by Lorenzo Woods started the scoring, while a pair of layups by Josh Talbert and a bucket by David Funderburg gave the Yellow Jackets an early 8-2 advantage seven minutes into the contest. A layup by Woods stopped a 5-point spurt by the Panthers and gave R-MC a 10-7 edge midway through the first half. Ferrum took its first lead at 11-10 before a three-pointer from Ian Robertson put the Yellow Jackets up 13-11 with eight minutes left. R-MC trailed 23-21 before a triple by Buzz Anthony and a pair of layups by Mallory gave the visitors a 28-23 advantage at intermission. Ferrum had the first bucket of the second half before a trey by Anthony and a jumper by Woods gave R-MC a 33-25 lead two minutes in. The Panthers pulled within three before a jumper by Woods gave the Yellow Jackets a 49-44 edge midway through the period. Ferrum had six straight points to go up 50-49 with six minutes left. Woods hit another jumper as the visitors reclaimed the lead at 51-50. A 5-1 run gave the Panthers a 55-52 lead with just under three minutes left. A Mallory layup with 2:34 left pulled      R-MC within one, and a Mallory jumper put R-MC ahead for good at 56-55 with two minutes left. A dunk by Mallory put the Yellow Jackets up 58-55 with one minute remaining. A bucket by Ferrum make it a one-point contest with 32 seconds left. With the shot clock running down, Mallory buried a three-pointer to secure the 61-57 victory. Mallory had 19 points, while Anthony finished with 14 and Woods added 12.

Buzz Anthony was USBWA National Player of the Week on Nov. 23. He had a career-high 32 points in 88-74 win over #13 Emory. He had his second double-double of the year with 15 points and 13 assists in an 82-74 win over #3 Marietta.
