ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon men's and women's swimming team will have their first competition of 2022 by hosting Lynchburg on Wednesday evening.

The Basics

Meet 7: Wednesday, Jan. 19 vs. Lynchburg

Time: 6 p.m.

Venue: Ashland, Va. (Brock Center Pool)

Last Meeting: The Yellow Jackets travelled to Lynchburg on January 16, 2020. The women posted a 111-85 win, while the men pulled out a 106-90 victory. The Hornets participated in the TYR Yellow Jacket Invitational in December, placing third for both the women and the men.

Kramer, Fritz, Vieni Strong in YJI: Senior Lacey Kramer and junior Emily Fritz each recorded two wins on Day 2 of the TYR Yellow Jacket Invitational to help R-MC move up and finish second out of 10 teams. Kramer finished first out of 36 individuals in the 100 Back in 59.83. She placed first out of 35 swimmers in the 200 Back in 2:09.39. Fritz finished first out of 39 individuals in the 100 Breast in 1:06.31, the second-best time in program history. She placed first out of 35 swimmers in the 200 Breast in 2:24.23, the second-best time in program history and 0.02 away from the school record. On Day 1, sophomore Katelyn Vieni finished first out of 47 individuals in the 200 IM in 2:09.08 to break the program record. It ranked second-best in the ODAC and 30th nationally at the time.

Morison The Man in YJI: Senior Shane Morison had a pair of Top 4 finishes as the men placed sixth out of 10 teams at the TYR Yellow Jacket Invitational. He was second out of 27 swimmers in the 200 Free in 1:46.90. Morison was fourth out of 52 individuals in the 100 Free in 47.96 Morison was also part of three relays for the Yellow Jackets.

Four Firsts for Kramer, Vieni vs. SBC: Senior Lacey Kramer and sophomore Katelyn Vieni both contributed to four firsts in a 120-92 win over Sweet Briar. Kramer won the 100 Back in 1:02.67 and the 200 Back in 2:14.16. Vieni won the 100 Free in 55.40 and the 200 Breast in 2:31.24. The pair helped the Yellow Jackets win the 200 Medley Relay and the 400 Free Relay.

Parisi, Deavers Deliver for R-MC vs. H-SC: Senior Matthew Parisi and sophomore Ryan Deavers each posted a win and two seconds against the Tigers of Hampden-Sydney. Parisi won the 500 Free in 5:22.36. He was second in the 200 Free in 1:59.59 and in the 200 Fly in 2:17.44. Deavers finished first in the 200 Breast in 2:29.79. He was second in the 100 Breast in 1:10.02 and in the 100 IM in 1:01.80.

Vieni Very Good in IM: Sophomore Katelyn Vieni had three firsts in the 103-77 win over St. Mary's (Md.). She won the 200 IM in 2:11.89, the top time in the ODAC this season. It was the second-best time in program history, less than one second behind Erin Ewalt's time of 2:11.06 from 2005. Vieni also won the 100 Breast in 1:07.56, the best time in the ODAC so far this season. She was a member of the winning 200 Free Relay team.

Cooke Captures Three: Senior Maggie Cooke also recorded three firsts vs. St. Mary's (Md.). She won the 50 Free and 100 Back in individual events. Cooke was part of the first-place 200 Medley Relay team.

Great Day for Gregory: Senior Justin Gregory registered three firsts in a 110-81 win over St. Mary's (Md.). Gregory won the 200 Free and 500 Free along with being part of the victorious 200 Free Relay team.

Memorable Meet for Morison: Senior Shane Morison also had three firsts in the victory over St. Mary's (Md.). He won the 50 Free and 100 Free along with being part of the victorious 200 Free Relay team.

Fritz Strong in Breaststroke: Junior Emily Fritz won four of five individual events in last week's two meets. She has the top time in the ODAC in the 200 Breast in 2:31.60. Fritz has the second-best time in the ODAC in the 100 Breast in 1:09.81.

Kramer Captures First: Senior Lacey Kramer won the 100 Back against Mary Washington in a time of 1:01.92.

All-ODAC Returnees: The Yellow Jackets have several All-ODAC performers returning from the 2019-20 season. For the women, senior Maggie Cooke, junior Becca Lazerson and senior Lacey Kramer were All-ODAC Second Team, while junior Emily Fritz was All-ODAC Third Team. For the men, Justin Gregory and Shane Morison were All-ODAC Third Team.

Seniors: R-MC has 11 seniors this season. On the women's team are Maggie Cooke, Zandy Knoke, Lacey Kramer, Becca Lazerson, Emma Kate Russell, Lauren Simonson and Brooke Walthall. On the men's side are Justin Gregory, Shane Morison, Matthew Parisi and Drew Robertson.

Upcoming Meet: The Yellow Jackets are scheduled to head to our nation's capital on Saturday, Jan. 22 for a 1 p.m. meet at Catholic.
