Box Score (WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Maria-Teresa Ambrogi-Torres (Sr., Richmond, Va. / Trinity Episcopal) scored the first goal of the season as Randolph-Macon took on Catholic in field hockey action Wednesday evening. Unfortunately for the Yellow Jackets the Cardinals scored two second half goals to take the victory away in the nation's capital.
The Basics
Score: Randolph-Macon 1, Catholic 2
Venue: Cardinal Stadium
Records: Randolph-Macon 0-2, Catholic 1-2
How It Happened
- Ambrogi-Torres' goal came in the first quarter thanks to an assist from Alaina McCoy (Fr., Fredericksburg, Va. / Stafford). With the Yellow Jackets offense pressuring, McCoy sent a pass up the middle of the field into the circle where Ambrogi-Torres was able to deflect it past the goalkeeper.
- The 1-0 score held up through halftime and into the third until the Cardinals' Katie Murphy scored on an assist from Molly McEvoy during a penalty corner with two minutes left in the frame.
- It appeared the game might head into overtime once again for the Jackets, but the Cardinals took advantage of a breakaway late in the game. Murphy and McEvoy teamed together again as McEvoy centered the ball from the right to Murphy in front of the goal.
Inside The Numbers
- Gatlin Snyder (Sr., Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) did well to limit Catholic's score as the hosts outshot Randolph-Macon 18-6 in the contest. The Cardinals had multiple opportunities on penalty corners with a 19-4 advantage.
- Ambrogi-Torres' goal was the 36th of her career and her seventh in her last seven games dating back to last season during the spring.
- McCoy's assist was the first point of her collegiate career.
