(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) - One will be hard-pressed to find a couple of more exciting volleyball matches than the two that Randolph-Macon has played in the past couple of days. That's because the Yellow Jackets won their second five-set contest in as many nights in a thriller with Christopher Newport on Thursday.
The Captains lost for just the third time in 16 contests as the Lemon and Black came from behind after they dropped the first set to take home the victory.
Score: Randolph-Macon 3, Christopher Newport 2 (17-25, 25-20, 25-16, 16-25, 17-15)
Records: Randolph-Macon 8-4, Christopher Newport 13-3

A quick 4-1 start by the Yellow Jackets didn't hold up as the Captains eventually came back and took the lead for good following a kill by Maddie Carter that made the score 6-5. CNU was able to expand its lead throughout the rest of the game to take the early 1-0 advantage.
-
Another fast start favored the Jackets in the second, but this time they staved off the Captains' comeback attempt. The hosts were able to take a 12-11 lead, but a kill by Danielle LaRosa (Sr., Charlottesville, Va. / Albemarle) put the Jackets level again. The set was tied at 15-all before a kill by Sydney Koch (Sr., Raleigh, N.C. / Sanderson) put the Jackets up for good. Consecutive kills by Grace Parker (Jr., Andober, N.J. / Pope John XXIII) closed the set and evened the match at 1-1.
-
As one may expect, the third was battled closely for the majority. The Jackets jumped out to another early lead before CNU tied it at 11-all with another Carter kill. RMC proceeded to go on an 8-2 rally with a pair of kills from both Parker and Koch to take control of the game. The momentum carried onward as RMC took a 2-1 lead.

The fourth set belonged to the hosts as they stayed alive and stayed in the lead for the duration. The Jackets rallied late with seven of the last 11 points scored, but it wasn't enough as the fifth set was forced.
-
RMC jumped out to a 6-3 lead before the Captains answered with an 8-0 run to take an almost insurmountable lead. But the Jackets didn't quit and eventually took the lead at 14-13 on an attack error by CNU. Facing match point, the Captains stayed alive temporarily before a kill by Parker and another CNU attack error gave the Jackets the 3-2 victory a second consecutive night.
-
Parker had a career-night with a new personal-best of 22 kills for match-high honors. She reached volleyball's version of a double-double with 13 digs.
-
Koch joined her in double-figures with 10 kills. She and LaRosa continued to be a force up front as well with seven blocks. LaRosa provided four of them with two solo rejections.
-
Elsewhere defensively Leslie Currie (So., Mechanicsville, Va. / Hanover) received over a third of the Captains attacks with 33 digs, the most in the match. Madison Warlick (Sr., Charlottesville, Va. / Albemarle) added 14.
-
Three captains had double-digits in kills with Carter leading the way at 17. Mackenzie Wright tallied 12 while Kyla McIntyre added 11.
The Jackets are now off through the weekend, but they'll return to action on Monday in a rescheduled date with Hollins from September 15. That match is now at Crenshaw Gymnasium and will open up a four-match home stand to start the month of October.
