Box Score (ASHLAND, Va.) – Nine different players scored as Randolph-Macon cruised past Meredith with little trouble in field hockey action on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets offense inundated the Avenging Angels all day and kept possession almost entirely on the attack.
The Basics
Score: Randolph-Macon 9, Meredith 0
Venue: Nunnally Field
Records: Randolph-Macon 4-3, Meredith 0-5
How It Happened
- The goals came early and often beginning with Maria-Teresa Ambrogi-Torres (Sr., Richmond, Va. / Trinity) who raced down at the start and fired a shot that went in just 16 seconds into the game.
- It was a sign of things to come as the Yellow Jackets added a pair later in the frame thanks to Alaina McCoy (Fr., Fredericksburg, Va. / Stafford) and Sydney Duimstra (Sr., Montpelier, Va. / Deep Run) providing goals. Mia Kuhnle (Fr., Yorktown, Va. / Tabb) assisted McCoy's goal that made the score 2-0.
- Four goals followed in the second quarter. Kuhnle opened the scoring on an assist from Emma Landis (So., Annandale, N.J. / North Hunterdon) in the 19th minute. Just 15 seconds later, Kuhnle got her fourth point of the game as she assisted Raegan Williams (So., Chesapeak, Va. / Western Branch) to make the score 5-0. Landis assisted the next goal which came from Alli Moore (So., Ashland, Va. / Hanover), and Summer Kujawa (Jr., Hampton, Va. / Kecoughtan) capped the first half offense with a goal a couple minutes before the half.
- The second half saw two more goals, one in each period. Lindsay Moore (Sr., Ashland, Va. / Hanover) scored five minutes into the half on a helper from Ambrogi-Torres, and Landis scored at the start of the fourth on an assist from Williams.
Inside The Numbers
- Because of the offense, hardly any defense was needed as the Yellow Jackets recorded their fourth shutout of the season. The back line led by Duimstra, Tori Mumm (Jr., Forest Hill, Md. / Bel Air), and Annika Egerland (Jr., Forest, Hill, Md. / Bel Air) held a second opponent this season to no shots in the game.
- Offensively the Jackets pelted the Angels with 73 shots with 51 on goal and Meredith's Shae-Lynn Henderson making 42 saves.
- The Jackets had over 20 shots in each quarter except the third.
- Penalty corners also heavily favored the Yellow Jackets 19-0. Most came in the first with seven awarded to RMC.
- With her goal and assist, Ambrogi-Torres now has 98 points in her collegiate career.
For The Record
- The margin of victory is the largest since RMC defeated Sweet Briar exactly two years previously on September 25, 2019.
