How It Happened (Match 1 vs. Randolph):
-
The day started in dominating fashion by the Yellow Jackets in the most divisive set of their two matches. R-MC jumped out to a 16-3 lead before the Wildcats could string together two consecutive points to make it 16-5. It was the only time the hosts were able to do so in the set.
-
Set 2 played closer despite R-MC opening the game with a 10-4 lead following kills by Megan Bost (Fr., Angier, N.C. / West Johnston) and Gracyn Draney (So., Forest, Va. / Jefferson Forest). The Jackets started to separate themselves later and eventually led by 10 at 23-13 thanks to a Charli Dietz (Fr., Radford, Va. / Radford) ace before the 25-15 final.
-
After an 11-point setback in the third, the Jackets returned to their winning ways in the fourth. They never trailed after they scored the opening three points, and after the Wildcats closed within one at 5-4, R-MC answered with kills by Draney and Madison Warlick (Jr., Charlottesville, Va. / Albemarle) sandwiched around a pair of Randolph errors.
-
The Jackets led by as many as seven after a kill by Grace Parker (So., Andover, N.J. / Pope John XXIII) made it 23-16.
Inside The Numbers (Match 1 vs. Randolph):
-
Parker led the team with 10 kills on 17 attempts for a hitting percentage of .412.
-
Macquire Gubba (Jr., Grove City, Pa. / Grove City) led the defense with 15 digs and assisted 14 times on offense. Emma Young (Sr., Highland Park, Ill. / Highland Park) dished out 17 assists to lead the team.
How It Happened (Match 2 vs. W&L):
-
The Jackets took the first set after breaking a 12 of the last 16 points. A kill by LaRosa tied the set at 14-all. After a service error by the Generals, the run continued with three consecutive kills by Parker, Warlick, and Parker again.
-
The tables turned in the second as the Generals used a late rally after the set was tied at 12-all midway through. A kill by Draney brought the Jackets within two, but it was the closest they could get the rest of the game.
-
The Generals jumped out to a 10-1 lead and used that momentum en route to the set two win.
-
Needing to win the fourth, R-MC tied the set with three-straight points, two of which came on kills by Bost and Parker. However the Generals jumped back out to a four-point advantage and led by at least three the rest of the way.
Inside The Numbers (Match 2 vs. W&L):
-
The Jackets were led by three players in double figures in kills. Draney led the way with 11, while Parker and Bost each tallied 10.
-
Loewe led the defense with 16 digs. Parker added 12 for the double-double, and Warlick chalked up 13.
