Box Score (ASHLAND, Va.) – The Randolph-Macon women's volleyball had little trouble in a three-game sweep of Emory & Henry on Sunday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets remained unbeaten on the season, while the Wasps were swept in their first two matches to start the year.
The Basics
Score: Randolph-Macon 3, Emory & Henry 0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-22)
Venue: Crenshaw Gym
Records: R-MC 3-0, 2-0 ODAC; E&H 0-2, 0-2 ODAC
How It Happened:
- It took a little while for the Yellow Jackets to get started, but made their presence known once they did. Trailing 6-1 to start the opening game, R-MC took control with an 11-1 run. Grace Parker (So., Andover, N.J. / Pope John XXIII) led the charge with three of the first four kills to spark the rally. After a service error, four of the next eight points came on kills by Megan Bost (Fr., Angier, N.C. / West Johnston), Parker, Madison Warlick (Jr., Charlottesville, Va. / Albemarle), and Sydney Kock (Jr., Raleigh, N.C. / Sanderson) to take a 12-7 lead and force the Wasps to take a time out.
- The visitors were able to take four of the next six points, but the Jackets closed the game with 11 of the last 15 points, including five of the last six.
- In Game 2, the teams were equal at 9-all before the Jackets jumped ahead thanks to an 11-2 run. The first five points went to the hosts as a result of Wasps errors.
- R-MC's middle game helped give them the set and match win during the third. An 11-3 rally capped by a Jordan Davis-Allen (So., Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) kill put the Jackets up 21-14, and every bit of it was needed as the Wasps answered with the next four.
- They eventually pulled within two at 21-19, but E&H couldn't get any closer than two the rest of the way.
Inside The Numbers:
- Parker dominated up front with 12 kills on 22 attempts and a hitting percentage of .409. Koch followed with seven kills on 11 attempts and an astronomical percentage of .636.
- The 6-2 featured both Emma Young (Sr., Highland Park, Ill. / Highland Park) and Macquire Gubba (Jr., Grove City, Pa. / Grove City) dishing out the assists. Young totaled 14 to lead the match while Gubba added 13.
- Leslie Currie (Fr., Mechanicsville, Va. / Hanover) led the team defensively with nine digs. Davis-Allen rejected three of the six blocks made by Randolph-Macon.
