Box Score (BRIDGEWATER, Va.) – March Madness featured a little bit of volleyball action as Randolph-Macon took down Bridgewater in ODAC action Friday night. The Yellow Jackets needed to come from behind, but did so by forcing five sets and winning the final two.
The Basics
Score: Randolph-Macon 3, Bridgewater 2 (25-19, 20-25, 18-25, 25-22, 15-8)
Venue: Nininger Hall
Records: R-MC 2-0, 1-0 ODAC; Bridgewater 1-1, 1-1 ODAC
How It Happened:
- The Yellow Jackets took the early advantage by edging out the Eagles at the end of the first set. The teams went back-and-forth and evenly split the first 24 points. A kill by Madison Warlick (Jr., Charlottesville, Va. / Albemarle), an ace, and an error by the hosts gave the Jackets the lead for good. Two more kills by Warlick capped off a 6-1 run en route to the 25-19 result.
- Another close set went Bridgewater's way after both teams were even again through 20 points. This time the Eagles went on a 6-1 run to take a 16-11 lead that eventually resulted in a 25-20 win for BC.
- R-MC appeared to be back in control after jumping out to a 10-5 lead in the third after a kill by Sydney Koch (Jr., Raleigh, N.C. / Sanderson). That eventually led to a 15-11 advantage before the Eagles went on the largest rally of the night and scored the next 10 points.
- Needing to win the fourth set to stay alive, R-MC was equal at 20-20 with the Eagles. A pair of errors by the Eagles gave the Jackets the pivotal two-point advantage and R-MC was able to close it out with kills by Gracyn Draney (So., Forest, Va. / Jefferson Forest), Kock, and Megan Bost (Fr., Angier, N.C. / West Johnston).
- With momentum now on their side, Randolph-Macon separated itself from Bridgewater in the deciding fifth. A kill by Warlick after a service error gave R-MC a 7-4 lead and started a 10-4 rally to end the match.
