Home Cookin'

With the victory over Gettysburg on Wednesday, R-MC extended its program record for home winning streak in Crenshaw Gym at 36. It is the longest current streak in Division III. R-MC previously won 32 straight in Crenshaw Gym from 1982-85. The overall program record for home winning streak is 50, from 1961-66.

Buzz Anthony now owns the R-MC program record with 202 career steals.

 

Last Time Out

Josh Talbert registered a career-high 26 points, and David Funderburg recorded his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, as R-MC posted a 77-57 victory over Gettysburg.

How it Happened:

  • Talbert had the first two buckets of the game, and a three-pointer by DaQuan Morris put the Yellow Jackets up 7-2 less than two minutes into the contest. Talbert and Lance Johnson nailed three-pointers as     R-MC went up 13-4 with 12:30 left in the first half. The Bullets used a 10-0 run over the next three minutes to take their first lead at 14-13. GC was up 17-15 before another triple by Johnson capped a 13-5 spurt as the Yellow Jackets led 28-22 with four minutes remaining. A trey by Will Coble gave R-MC a 32-26 edge before the Bullets tallied the final two buckets of the half and trailed 32-30 at the break.
  • Gettysburg used a 5-2 start to take a 35-34 lead two minutes into the second half. A follow by Funderburg put the Yellow Jackets ahead to stay. A free throw by Funderburg to complete the three-point play sparked a 7-0 run as R-MC led 41-35 with 16:45 left. The Bullets pulled within two at 45-43 before Funderburg and Talbert both had a pair of layups as the Yellow Jackets went up 53-43 with 9:20 remaining. A three-pointer by Loginn Norton pushed the lead to 16 at 66-50 with 4:45 left. GC trailed 70-57 with 2:15 remaining before Norton had a three-pointer with the shot clock running down, and Talbert had a pair of fast-break layups following turnovers to make the final 77-57.

 

Last Meeting

Freshman Korey Turner had 12 points, while junior Daniel Noe and sophomore Grayson Midulla both tallied 11 as       R-MC dropped a 64-59 to Averett.

 

How it Happened:

 

  • The Cougars (2-4) jumped out to a quick 13-6 lead seven minutes into the contest. Freshman Luke Neeley hit a three-pointer to cap a 10-4 run as the Yellow Jackets (3-5) cut the deficit to one at 17-16 with seven minutes left in the first half. AU scored seven straight points to go up 24-16 with 5:25 remaining before Turner scored five in a 7-0 run for  R-MC as the visitors led 24-23 at halftime.
  • Midulla had a follow-up basket to start the second half as the Yellow Jackets took their first lead at 25-24. Junior Sean Ryan nailed a trey to put R-MC on top 28-24. The Cougars scored eight straight points to take a 32-28 advantage. AU led 47-42 with 6:30 remaining before a layup by Turner capped an 8-3 spurt as the Yellow Jackets knotted the score at 50-50. The Cougars scored eight of the next 10 points to take a 58-52 lead with 1:22 left in their way to the 64-59 victory.
  • Midulla also had four assists and three rebounds for the Yellow Jackets. Senior Jamie Wilson had six rebounds for R-MC.

Anthony: National Player of the Week

Senior Buzz Anthony was named USBWA National Player of the Week on Nov. 23. He scored a career-high 32 points in an 88-74 win over #13 Emory. Anthony recorded his second double-double of the year with 15 points and 13 assists in an 82-74 win over #3 Marietta.

Taking Care of the Ball

R-MC is first in the ODAC and 33rd in the nation in fewest turnovers per game at 11.4. A season ago, the Yellow Jackets led the ODAC and were seventh in the nation in turnovers per game in 9.7. R-MC is tops in the conference and 24th in the country in assist/turnover ratio at 1.38. The Yellow Jackets were first in the conference and seventh in the country a season ago in assist/turnover ratio at 1.64. Last season, R-MC was tops in the league and 15th in the nation in turnover margin at 4.3.

 

Daunting Defense

R-MC was first in the ODAC and fourth in the nation in scoring defense a season ago, allowing 58.2 points per contest.   R-MC led the nation in scoring defense two seasons ago at 57.3 points per game. This year, the Yellow Jackets are second in the ODAC and 17th in the country, allowing 62.0 points per outing.
