The Series vs. Carnegie Mellon

This will be the first meeting between the Yellow Jackets and the Tartans.

 

The Series vs. Wilson

This would be the first meeting between the Yellow Jackets and the Phoenix.

 

The Series vs. Hood

The Yellow Jackets are 2-0 all-time against the Blazers. R-MC won 56-46 on Dec. 30, 2010, in Ashland in the Kay Jewelers R-MC Coaches Classic. The Yellow Jackets won 91-61 on Nov. 10, 2018, in Frederick in the MMI Tipoff Tournament.

Win Streak

R-MC enters the 2021-22 season with a 17-game win streak. The Yellow Jackets won the final five games of the 2019-20 campaign before going 12-0 this past season.

 

Pennsylvania Opponent

The last time R-MC faced an opponent from the state of Pennsylvania was Dec. 29, 2019. The Yellow Jackets had a 94-56 victory over Lebanon Valley in the first round of the R-MC Coaches Tournament sponsored by Fink's Jewelers.

 

Last Trip to Maryland

The last time R-MC played in the state of Maryland was the kickoff of the 2019-20 season. The Yellow Jackets played in the Dan Greene Memorial Tournament. R-MC defeated Washington College 74-47 and downed host St. Mary's (Md.) 84-40.

 

Maryland Roots

The Yellow Jackets have three players from the state of Maryland. Senior Buzz Anthony is from Arnold and attended Archbishop Spalding. Junior Miles Mallory is from Beltsville and graduated from St. Vincent Pallotti. Freshman Vincent Payne is from Frederick and attended St. Maria Goretti. Head coach Josh Merkel also hails from Frederick.

 

Season Openers

The Yellow Jackets have won their past three season openers, all away from home.

 

Preseason All-Americans

R-MC had two players named to the D3hoops.com Preseason All-America teams. Senior Buzz Anthony was named All-America First Team, while junior Miles Mallory was named All-America Second Team.

R-MC was first in the ODAC and fourth in the nation in scoring defense a season ago, allowing 58.2 points per contest. The Yellow Jackets held three of their final six opponents to 55 points or less. R-MC led the nation in scoring defense two seasons ago at 57.3 points per game.

 

Scoring Margin

Last season, the Yellow Jackets topped the ODAC and were fourth in the country in scoring margin at 20.5.

 

Take Care of the Ball

A season ago, R-MC led the ODAC and were seventh in the nation in turnovers per game in 9.7. The Yellow Jackets were first in the conference and seventh in the country in assist/turnover ratio at 1.64. R-MC was tops in the league and 15th in the nation in turnover margin at 4.3.
