Last Time Out
Miles Mallory had his second straight double-double and third of the season with 28 points and 17 rebounds, both career highs, as R-MC dropped a 77-76 overtime decision at CNU.
How it Happened:
- Mallory had two buckets sandwiched around a three-pointer by Buzz Anthony as the Yellow Jackets sprung out to a 7-2 lead three minutes into the contest. The Captains cut the deficit to two before a pair of free throws from Daniel Mbangue made it 13-9 with 12:30 left in the first half. A basket by CNU again made it a two-point contest before a pair of treys by Anthony were followed by a jumper and a triple by Mallory to give R-MC a 24-11 advantage with 9:10 remaining. The Captains narrowed the margin to eight before a jumper by Mallory, a three-pointer by Ian Robertson and a follow by Mbangue pushed the lead to 15 at 34-19 with 4:30 left. The Yellow Jackets would end the half with a 41-28 advantage.
- On R-MC's first possession of the second half, a pair of free throws by David Funderburg extended the lead back to 15 at 43-28. CNU closed within seven at 47-40 before a jumper by Anthony and a three-pointer by Loginn Norton made it 52-40 with 13 minutes remaining. The Captains cut it to nine before a layup by Mallory and a trey by Norton made up a 5-1 run as the Yellow Jackets led 60-47 with eight minutes left. CNU would eventually tie the game at 69-69 with 50 seconds left. Mallory missed a jumper with under 30 seconds remaining and the Captains missed a shot at the buzzer to force overtime.
- CNU won the tap and scored to give them their first lead of the contest before a triple by Robertson gave R-MC a 72-71 edge with four minutes left. A layup by the Captains gave them a one-point lead before a jumper by Anthony put the Yellow Jackets up 74-73 with 3:20 left. After another layup by CNU, Anthony hit two free throws with 1:26 left to give R-MC a 76-75 lead. A layup by the Captains with one minute remaining gave them a 77-76 edge.
