The Series: R-MC v. Emory

The Yellow Jackets are 1-0 all-time against the Eagles. On Nov. 25, 2018,  R-MC registered a 94-74 win in Atlanta over the 18th-ranked Eagles on Day 2 of the Emory Thanksgiving Classic.

 

The Series: R-MC v. Marietta

The Yellow Jackets are 1-1 all-time against the Pioneers. On Dec. 29, 1967, R-MC edged MC 84-79 in the Ft. Eustis Invitational Tournament. On Dec. 29, 1999, the Pioneers topped the Yellow Jackets 84-75 in the Rees Jewelers Christmas Classic.

Win Streak

R-MC owns a 20-game win streak. The Yellow Jackets won the final five games of the 2019-20 campaign before going 12-0 this past season. R-MC is 3-0 so far this season.

 

Mallory: National Team of the Week

Junior Miles Mallory was named to the initial D3hoops.com national Team of the Week. He was the MVP of the MMI Tipoff Tournament after averaging 18.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in a pair of wins for the Yellow Jackets. He had 20 points & 13 boards in a home win vs. UMW.

Last Meeting

Montese Adams recorded his second career double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, one of five Yellow Jackets to score in double figures, as R-MC won at No. 18 Emory 94-74 on Day 2 of the Emory Thanksgiving Classic, ending the Eagles' 36-game home non-conference win streak over the past six years. After falling behind early 4-2, the Yellow Jackets used a 27-10 run to take a 29-14 advantage eight minutes into the contest. Buzz Anthony had eight points during the run. R-MC hit 12 of its first 15 field goal attempts (80%) and 5 of its first 6 three-pointers (83%). The Eagles narrowed the deficit to eight at 34-26 before treys by Luke Neeley and Corey Bays pushed the lead back to 14 at 40-26 with 6:20 left in the first half. A three-pointer by Korey Turner with two minutes remaining gave the Yellow Jackets a 47-36 lead before Emory scored the final six points of the period as R-MC led 47-42 at intermission. The Yellow Jackets shot 60% from the floor (18-30) and 60% on three-pointers (9-15). Arnold had 10 first-half points, while Ian Robertson added eight off the bench. Adams had five points and seven rebounds, while Darryl Williams paced the visitors with six assists. Emory made it a 2-point game early in the second period, trailing 49-47. Williams had a three-pointer and a layup to spark a 25-9 run that gave R-MC a 74-56 advantage with nine minutes left in the second half. The Yellow Jackets maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way. Adams hit a trey with 1:35 left and Lorenzo Woods had a layup with 45 seconds left to give R-MC its largest lead at 22 (94-72) before a pair of free throws by the Eagles made the final 94-72.

 

Last Time Out

Miles Mallory put in 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, while Buzz Anthony tallied 16 points with 12 assists, as R-MC held off Mary Washington 57-53.

How it Happened:

•     The Eagles led 4-2 before a three-pointer by Ian Robertson gave the Yellow Jackets a lead they would not relinquish. R-MC was up 12-10 before Anthony had two free throws, a trey and a layup to give the Yellow Jackets a 19-10 advantage with 13:30 remaining in the first half.     R-MC had a 21-14 lead before three straight buckets by Mallory put the home team ahead 27-14 with 8:30 left. UMW closed the gap to nine before layups by David Funderburg and Mallory gave R-MC a 33-20 edge at the half. Mallory had 12 points and nine boards in the first.

•     Josh Talbert had a jumper and a triple to spark a 7-2 run to start the second half as R-MC took its largest lead at 40-22 less than four minutes into the period. A layup by Anthony put the Yellow Jackets up 48-33 with 10:30 left before the Eagles scored seven straight to cut the deficit to eight with seven minutes remaining. A layup by Mallory stopped the run and gave R-MC a 10-point margin at 50-40. The Yellow Jackets led 55-45 with 3:15 left before eight straight points by UMW made it a two-point game at 55-53 with 50 seconds left. Mallory hit a jumper with 30 seconds left to make it 57-53. The Eagles miss a three-pointer with 12 seconds left as the game finished 57-53.

By The Numbers:

•     Mallory and Anthony were the only two Yellow Jackets to score in double figures.

Daunting Defense

R-MC was first in the ODAC and fourth in the nation in scoring defense a season ago, allowing 58.2 points per contest. The Yellow Jackets held three of their final six opponents to 55 points or less. R-MC led the nation in scoring defense two seasons ago at 57.3 points per game. This year, the Yellow Jackets are allowing 59.0 points per outing.

 

Scoring Margin

Last season, the Yellow Jackets topped the ODAC and were fourth in the nation in scoring margin at 20.5. This season, R-MC has a scoring margin of 11.3.

 

Home Cookin'

R-MC extended its program record for home winning streak in Crenshaw Gym at 34. It is the longest current streak in Division III. R-MC previously won 32 straight from 1982-85.
