Women's Volleyball Seniors Shine, Swat Hornets

Box Score

(ASHLAND, Va.) – On a night when they were honored before the match, the seniors shined and helped the Randolph-Macon women's volleyball team cruise by Lynchburg in ODAC action Friday evening. The Yellow Jackets had little trouble with the Hornets while extending their win streak to seven matches.

The Basics

Score: Randolph-Macon 3, Lynchburg 0 (25-7, 25-18, 25-9)

Venue: Crenshaw Gymnasium

Records: Randolph-Macon 11-4, 6-0 ODAC; Lynchburg 7-10, 3-4 ODAC

How It Happened

  • Randolph-Macon opened up the first game firing on all cylinders. After the Hornets cut an early deficit to 7-5, the Yellow Jackets steamrolled through the rest of the game and scored 18 of the last 20 points. During that stretch, the Jackets totaled 10 kills and also went on a 10-0 run. Madison Warlick (Sr., Charlottesville, Va. / Albemarle) celebrated Senior Night in style and opened up with six kills in the frame to lead the offense.
  • The second set proved to be the most competitive. Lynchburg saw its only lead of more than one point during this time and led 12-9 before the Jackets stormed back and took the lead for good with five of the next seven points. A Grace Parker (Jr., Andover, N.J. / Pope John XXIII) kill sparked a 7-0 during that time that tied the set at 14-all and then gave RMC the lead for good. Parker added two more kills in the rally which included a pair from Danielle LaRosa (Sr., Charlottesville, Va. / Albemarle).
  • The Jackets closed out the evening by opening the third set with the first four points and never looking back. Another long 7-0 rally near the end put the score at 24-8 before Parker closed out the match with one final kill.

Inside The Numbers

  • Senior Sydney Koch (Raleigh, N.C. / Sanderson) and Parker led the attack with 13 kills each. Parker hit .462 while Koch followed at .400.
  • Warlick finished her evening with nine kills. She reached double figures on the defensive end with 11 digs.
  • LaRosa wasn't called upon too much offensively, but when she was, she was nearly automatic. On 11 attempts she was able to drive home eight kills for a hitting percentage of .727. She again led the team up front on the defensive end with three blocks.
  • Macguire Gubba (Sr., Grove City, Pa. / Grove City) had a solid night setting up the attack with 40 assists, the most for a three-set match this season.
  • Leslie Currie (So., Mechanicsville, Va. / Hanover) led the team receiving with 16 digs. Parker added 13.
  • Over the last three matches, the Yellow Jackets have outscored their opponents by an average of 25-11.56.
  • The Yellow Jackets served up six aces giving them six or more for the last four matches.
