Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Junior Buzz Anthony (Arnold, Md./Archbishop Spalding) scored 23, including 17 in the second half, junior Terry Woods (Burlington, N.C./Burlington School) tallied a career-best 20 points, and freshman Miles Mallory (Beltsville, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) registered his fourth double-double with 11 points and a season-high 14 rebounds as the third-ranked Randolph-Macon men's basketball team posted a hard-fought 67-61 ODAC victory at No. 18 Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday evening.

How it Happened:
- Junior David Funderburg (Greensboro, N.C./Northwest Guilford) scored in the paint for the first bucket of the game. The Marlins would take a 9-6 lead before Woods and Anthony both had two layups in a 10-3 spurt as the Yellow Jackets took an 18-12 lead with 12:15 left in the first half. After a three-pointer by VWU cut the deficit to three, Turner had a layup and a trey to extend the lead to 23-15 midway through the first period. Following a basket by the Marlins, freshman Miles Mallory (Beltsville, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) scored seven straight points with two follows sandwiched around a three-pointer as the visitors took a 30-17 lead with 6:45 remaining. VWU used a 14-4 run to cut the margin to three before a layup by Funderburg and a three-pointer by freshman Josh Talbert (Virginia Beach, Va./Kellam) pushed the advantage to eight at 39-31 with 40 seconds left. The Marlins had a three-pointer for the final bucket of the half as the Yellow Jackets led 39-34 at intermission. Woods put up 13 in the first half, while Mallory added seven points and seven rebounds. R-MC shot 53% in the first period (18-34) and held VWU to 41% shooting (12-29).
- The Marlins scored the first five points of the second half to knot the score at 39-39 before a short jumper by Anthony halted the run. VWU used a 10-4 spurt to go up 49-45 before a three-pointer by Anthony made it a one-point game at 49-48 with 11 minutes remaining. The Yellow Jackets trailed by three at 53-50 before a jumper by Mallory, a transition three-pointer by Woods and a pair of free throws by Anthony put R-MC on top 57-53 with 4:51 left. The Marlins tied the game at 59-59 before Anthony sank two free throws to put the Yellow Jackets on top for good at 61-59 with 2:14 remaining. A layup by Woods pushed the lead to four at 63-59 with 1:20 left. Anthony appeared to knock the ball loose but was whistled for a foul with one minute remaining. Two free throws by VWU made it 63-61. Anthony drew a foul and made both ends of a one-and-one to make the score 65-61 with 22 seconds left. Mallory blocked a shot, grabbed the rebound and was fouled with 14 seconds remaining. He hit both free throws to extend the lead to 67-61. Talbert snagged a rebound on a missed shot with nine seconds left and the Yellow Jackets ran out the clock to secure the 67-61 victory.
By The Numbers:
- R-MC held VWU to 39% shooting from the floor (22-57) and to 27 points in the second half.
- Anthony had seven field goals, one three-pointer and went 8 for 8 from the free throw line. He is shooting 90.3% from the foul line this season (56-62).
- Along with his 23 points, Anthony had five assists, four steals and four rebounds.
- Mallory was credited with three blocks. He leads the ODAC with 47 blocks this season.
For The Record
- R-MC remains the only team without a loss in ODAC play. The Yellow Jackets are 8-0 in conference contests halfway through the ODAC slate.
- The last time R-MC had two players score in double figures was in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament, when Corey Bays put up 24 and Darryl Williams added 22 in a 95-70 victory on March 1 in Crenshaw Gym.
- The Yellow Jackets have won five of the past six and 13 of the past 16 meetings with the Marlins. R-MC has taken five of the past six encounters in Virginia Beach.
