How It Happened
- Senior Darryl Williams (Columbia, Md./Glenelg Country) hit a three-pointer to give the Yellow Jackets an early lead before the Captains used a 14-2 run to go up 14-5 with 14:35 left in the first half. The advantage grew to 15 at 27-12 with 8:15 remaining before R-MC closed on a 17-6 spurt to make it 33-29 at halftime. Anthony paced the Yellow Jackets with 13 first-half points. Senior Montese Adams (Richmond, Va./Fuqua) had six points and four rebounds.
- A layup by junior Corey Bays (Bel Air, Md./CM Wright) put R-MC on top 37-36 with 17:35 left in the second half. A jumper by senior Jon Nowell (Riverdale, Ga./Blair Academy) and a three-pointer by Bays gave the Yellow Jackets their largest lead at 42-36 with 16:40 remaining. A bucket by Bays gave R-MC a 47-43 edge before CNU scored 15 straight points to go ahead 58-47 midway through the second period. The Yellow Jackets would get no closer that eight the rest of the way as the Captains posted the 72-61 win.
