Anthony Double-Double Lifts R-MC Men's Hoops over H-SC 81-50

ASHLAND, Va. - Freshman Buzz Anthony (Arnold, Md./Archbishop Spalding) had his second consecutive double-double with 11 points and 10 assists as the Randolph-Macon men's basketball team handed Hampden-Sydney an 81-50 defeat in ODAC action Thursday evening in front of a sellout crowd of 1,425 in Crenshaw Gym.

The Yellow Jackets (13-3, 7-0 ODAC) won their seventh straight game and remained in a tie for first place in the conference with Emory & Henry.

The Tigers (4-12, 1-6 ODAC) were held to their lowest point total of the season and dropped their seventh straight contest.

Anthony hit five field goals and one three-pointer. Junior Montese Adams (Richmond, Va./Fuqua) led all scorers with 15 points and sophomore Corey Bays (Bel Air, Md./CM Wright) added 14 points off the bench.

H-SC jumped out to a 7-4 lead in the game's first three minutes before a jumper by Anthony capped a 6-0 run to give R-MC a 10-7 lead with 12:25 left in the first period. The Tigers led 15-13 before Bays had two treys and a layup in a 21-5 spurt as the Yellow Jackets took a 34-20 advantage with just under two minutes left. A bucket by H-SC made it 34-22 at the half. Bays had eight first-half points, while Anthony added six. Anthony also had six assists. R-MC forced 11 turnovers and committed just two.

Adams had 10 points in a 26-6 run to start the second half as the Yellow Jackets took a 50-28 lead with 11:45 remaining. A three-pointer by senior Daniel Noe (Fairfax, Va./Bishop Ireton) made it 65-38 with seven minutes left. Bays buried a trey to give the home team a 77-42 advantage with four minutes remaining. A layup by freshman Terry Woods (Burlington, N.C./Burlington School) gave the Yellow Jackets their largest lead at 81-44 with 1:10 left before R-MC finished with an 81-50 victory.

The Yellow Jackets forced 26 turnovers, the highest total by an opponent this season. R-MC committed just six turnovers and has been in single digits in turnovers in five of the past six contests.

Adams and Noe paced the victors with five rebounds each.

Randolph-Macon hits the road for a 2 p.m. ODAC contest at Emory & Henry on Saturday, Jan. 20 in a battle for first place in the conference standings.
