Randolph-Macon Loses Two at Mary Washington Invitational

Fredericksburg, Va. – Randolph-Macon traveled back to Frederickburg on Friday to play a pair of matches in the Mary Washington Invitational. The Yellow Jackets lost both of the matches they appeared in, marking the team's first two losses in the young 2017 campaign.

Randolph-Macon 1, Berry College 3

The Yellow Jackets were able to win the first set 25-19, but lost three straight 25-22, 25-14 and 25-14 to the Vikings of Berry College. Errors plagued R-MC as it worked through the latter three game with the team hitting .157, -.132 and .000 respectively.

The Yellow Jackets did total 11 blocks in the match, led by a solo block and three assisted blocks from senior Colleen Beaver (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) and two assists each from junior Mariah Clark (Stuarts Draft, Va./Riverheads) and junior Emily Fitzwater (Bealton, Va./Liberty). Also defensively, senior Samantha Sallade (Newport News, Va./Peninsula Catholic) shined with 27 total digs

R-MC's kill leader was sophomore Miranda Hall (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) who tallied 12 in the match. Clark and senior Morgan Seal (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) each had 11 helping push the Yellow Jackets' offensive efforts along.

Senior Erin Quinn (Morrisville, N.C./Cardinal Gibbons) and freshman Angela Tender (Manassas, Va./Stone Bridge) split assisting duties with Quinn racking up 21 and Tender totaling 21.

Randolph-Macon 0, Susquehanna 3

Randolph-Macon did not have an answer against the Riverhawks as SU won 25-18, 25-13 and 25-22. R-MC again struggled with errors hit .103, -.030 and .143 in the three matches. The team struggled to get the offensive attack going and only had 33 kills on the evening. But the team did show an ultimate effort as the entire lineup killed at least one volley.

R-MC was led by Hall, who tallied eight kills in the match. Rebecca McGilvery (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) also put in a solid offensive evening with six kills.

Defensively, again the Yellow Jacked shined, scoring 14 blocks, all assisted, led by Fitzwater with six. Sallade led in the digs category, grabbing 15 while Quinn added nine. Quinn also had 22 assists.

R-MC is now 4-2 on the season. Randolph-Macon will be back at the Anderson Center in Frederickburg Saturday to take on Johns Hopkins and Averett in 12:00 P.M. and 2:00 P.M games respectively.
