Burns Goal Leads R-MC Women's Soccer over Guilford 1-0

ASHLAND, Va. - Junior Jenna Burns (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) scored in game's lone goal midway through the second half as the Randolph-Macon women's soccer team edged Guilford 1-0 in ODAC action Saturday afternoon on Day Field as part of Family Weekend.

The Yellow Jackets (5-3-1, 2-1 ODAC) have won two straight and four of their past five matches. The Quakers fell to 3-6 overall, 0-3 in ODAC play.

R-MC held an 11-1 advantage in shots in the first half, but neither team could score in the first 45 minutes.

In the 69th minute, senior Kasey Martino (Centreville, Va./Centreville) fed Burns, who tucked the ball inside the right post to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead. It was the third goal of the season for Burns, tying her for the team lead. The R-MC defense would hold the rest of the way as the Yellow Jackets posted their third shutout in the past four outings.

R-MC finished with a 21-4 advantage in shots. Freshman Meghan Skevington (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) paced the victors with five shots, while sophomore Gabby Nelson (Clover, Va./Halifax County) shot four times.

Randolph-Macon returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 4 for a 7 p.m. ODAC contest at Virginia Wesleyan.
