Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. - Sophomore Christina Newman (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) recorded five saves as the Randolph-Macon women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision at Washington & Lee Saturday afternoon in the ODAC opener for both teams.
The Yellow Jackets evened their overall record at 3-3-1 and moved to 0-1 in league play. The Generals rose to 4-2-1 overall, 1-0 in the ODAC.
Newman had four saves in the first half and one in the second half.
The teams were scoreless until the 30th minute, when W&L broke through with a goal. The Generals would enjoy that 1-0 lead at intermission. W&L held a 13-4 advantage on shots in the first half, including 5-2 on shots on goal. Junior Jenna Burns (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) had a pair of shots in the first half for the Yellow Jackets, including one on goal.
W&L would add an insurance goal in the 68th minute to make the final 2-0.
For the match, the Generals held a 23-5 advantage on shots.
Randolph-Macon will have its next two ODAC matches at home. The Yellow Jackets entertain Randolph on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 4 p.m. on the R-MC Soccer Field. On Saturday, Sept. 30, R-MC will host Guilford at 1 p.m. on Day Field as part of Family Weekend.
