Weiss Scores Twice as R-MC Women's Soccer Blanks Sweet Briar

SWEET BRIAR, Va. - Senior Brooke Weiss (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) recorded a pair of first-half goals as the Randolph-Macon women's soccer team swamped Sweet Briar 11-0 in ODAC action Saturday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets (8-4-1, 5-2 ODAC) outshot the Vixens (1-10, 0-6 ODAC) 55-0, with 32 shots on goal. R-MC tallied five goals in the first half and six in the second stanza.

Junior Mary Virginia Kelly (Midlothian, Va./James River) scored in the sixth minute on a header off a corner kick by freshman Abby Davis (Midlothian, Va./Manchester) as R-MC took a quick 1-0 lead. Sophomore Abbie Winkelmann (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) netted a goal 25 minutes into the match on a cross from senior Courtney Taylor (Prince George, Va./Prince George) to make it 2-0. Freshman Taylor Drucker (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) finished in the 30th minute on a pass from freshman Meghan Skevington (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) as the advantage grew to 3-0. Weiss netted her first two goals of the season in the 40th and 42nd minutes to make it 5-0 at intermission. Freshman Meredith Higginbotham (Richmond, Va./Mills Godwin) assisted on the first goal by Weiss.

Senior Sofie Rodriguez (Arlington, Va./Washington-Lee) scored 2:03 into the second half, while sophomore Rachel Pisarz (Powhatan, Va./Deep Run) and freshman Kerstin Mayes (Montpelier, Va./Calvary Christian) both registered a pair of goals in the second stanza as the lead grew to 10-0. Sophomore Keavy Baylor (Smithfield, Va./Hampton Roads Academy) poked in a cross from Skevington with less than three minutes remaining to make the final 11-0.

Weiss paced the victors with six shots, including five on goal. Baylor, Skevington, sophomore Gabby Nelson (Clover, Va./Halifax County) and freshman Casey Kent (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) each had five shots for the Yellow Jackets.

Freshmen Merritt Young (Manakin-Sabot, Va./Saint Gertrude) and Rosa Paredes (North Chesterfield, Va./Meadowbrook) split time in goal and combined on the shutout, R-MC's sixth in the past eight matches..

Randolph-Macon returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 21 with a 1 p.m. home ODAC contest against Hollins. It will Senior Day for R-MC's quartet of Weiss, Taylor, Rodriguez and Kasey Martino (Centreville, Va./Centreville).
