R-MC Offense Rolls in 52-29 Football Win over E&H

ASHLAND, Va. - The Randolph-Macon football team rolled up 541 yards of offense in a 52-29 home victory over Emory & Henry in ODAC action Saturday afternoon at Day Field.

The Yellow Jackets (4-2, 2-1 ODAC) scored 52 points for the second straight week. The Wasps fell to 2-4 overall, 1-2 in ODAC play.

R-MC rushed for 303 yards and six touchdowns. Senior JP Redmond (Midlothian, Va./Monacan) paced the home team with 156 yards on 23 carries with two touchdowns. Sophomore Burke Estes (Wilmington, N.C./New Hanover) completed 16 of 17 passes for 205 yards and one score. Junior Eric Hoy (Clayton, N.C./Clayton) was Estes' favorite target, with six catches for 33 yards.

E&H drove to the R-MC 2 on its first possession and settled for a 19-yard field goal to take an early 3-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets drove 78 yards in nine plays on their first possession, as junior Tre Frederick (Angier, N.C./West Johnston) scored from seven yards out to give the home team a 7-3 lead with six minutes left in the first period. Frederick caught a screen pass and streaked 52 yards to the end zone as R-MC extended its lead to 14-3 late in the first quarter.

On the first play of the second quarter, Hoy snuck in from one yard out to give the Yellow Jackets a 21-3 advantage. Following a Wasp TD, Hoy scored again from one yard out and freshman Chris Vidal (Wake, N.C./Wake Forest) nailed a season-long 39-yard field goal as R-MC took a 38-10 lead at intermission.

The Yellow Jackets had one of their most impressive drives to start the third quarter, going 72 yards on 13 plays in 7:07. Redmond scored on a one-yard run to give R-MC a 45-10 advantage. Following an E&H TD, sophomore Jordan Foster (Lynchburg, Va./Liberty Christian) scored from four yards out as R-MC took its biggest lead at 52-16 early in the fourth quarter. The Wasps put up a pair of TDs in the fourth quarter to make the final 52-29.

Hoy finished with eight carries for 71 yards and two scores. Frederick had 42 yards on seven carries with one touchdown, while Foster rushed 13 times for 39 yards and one TD.

Senior Norman Cade (Rolesville, N.C./Wake Forest) and junior Yonis Blanco (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) both had 10 tackles for the Yellow Jackets. Blanco had two tackles for loss for seven yards.

Randolph-Macon hits the road next Saturday, playing a non-conference contest at Newport News Apprentice on Oct. 21 at 1:00 p.m.
