Box Score CARLISLE, Pa. – Junior Kasey Martino (Centreville, Va./Centreville) tied the game in the 67th minute and the teams fought through overtime but remained deadlocked as the Randolph-Macon women's soccer team opened the 2016 season with a 1-1 tie at Dickinson Thursday afternoon.
The Red Devils tallied the lone goal of the first half in the 28th minute to take the early 1-0 lead. Dickinson held a slim 7-6 advantage in shots in the first stanza.
In the 67th minute, Martino lifted a free kick from 25 yards out just over the fingertips of the goalkeeper to level the score at 1-1. The Red Devils outshot the Yellow Jackets 14-4 in the second period, but could not add to their goal total. Both teams were held scoreless in the two overtime periods to make the final 1-1.
Sophomore TaylorAnne Barry (Earlysville, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) paced the Yellow Jackets with four shots, including three on shots on goal.
Junior Lindsay Zachman (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) started in goal and had three saves in the first half for R-MC. Freshman Christina Newman (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) had 10 saves without allowing a goal in the second half and in the two overtime periods.
The Yellow Jackets have their home opener on Sunday, Sept. 4 at 4:30 p.m. against St. Mary's.
