Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va.—Senior Hannah Livermon (Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) led R-MC with 19 points as the Randolph-Macon women's basketball team fell 83-63 to Lynchburg in ODAC action Saturday afternoon.
Seniors Katie Anderson (Beaverdam, Va. / Patrick Henry) and Khajae Hester (Virginia Beach, Va. / Cape Henry Collegiate) added 16 and 12 points, respectively.
Two early three pointers by the Yellow Jackets (9-11, 5-7 ODAC) produced a 6-2 lead early in the first quarter. The Hornets (17-4, 10-2 ODAC) tied the score at 6-6 before compiling an 11-2 spurt to hold a 17-8 advantage at the end of the quarter.
The Hornets added the first six points of the second quarter to maintain a 23-8 lead. Anderson tallied the next four points as the Yellow Jackets faced a 23-12 deficit with 7:35 remaining until halftime. Livermon nailed a three-pointer at the halfway mark to cut the Hornets' lead to 10 points. Lynchburg stretched its lead back to 15 but the Yellow Jackets responded with another three-pointer from Livermon and a layup from Anderson to again face a 10-point, 34-24, shortage with 2:47 to play. The Hornets used a 7-2 run to take a 42-26 lead to the locker room at the break.
Both teams scored 21 points in the third quarter. The Hornets recorded the first six points of the third stanza to hold a 48-26 lead with 7:40 remaining. Hester scored five points followed by a trey from Intermill as the Yellow Jackets used an 8-4 spurt to make the score 52-34. The teams traded baskets as the Yellow Jackets edged the Hornets 13-11 in the final five minutes of third quarter. Lynchburg maintained a 63-47 lead entering the final quarter.
Anderson and senior Lauren Vugteveen (Midlothian, Va. / Amelia Academy) scored the first four points of the fourth quarter to put R-MC within 12 points. The Hornets went on a 14-4 spurt to expand their lead to 77-55 with 5:12 remaining. Livermon added two three-pointers before the Hornets scored six of the final eight points to claim the ODAC win.
Junior Taylor Intermill (Fairfax, Va. / Fairfax) led the reserves with five points.
Freshman Lexi Mallory (Charlottesville, Va. / Miller School) led the team with three assists.
Randolph-Macon returns home on Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. for an ODAC contest against Virginia Wesleyan.
