Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Sophomore Montese Adams (Richmond, Va./Fuqua) had 11 points and four rebounds as the Randolph-Macon men's basketball team dropped a 70-47 decision at second-ranked Christopher Newport Tuesday evening in the season opener for both teams.
The Captains (1-0) scored the first two buckets of the game before Adams and senior Jamie Wilson (West Point, Va./West Point) hit three-pointers to put the Yellow Jackets (0-1) on top 6-4 three minutes into the contest. CNU scored seven straight points to take an 11-6 advantage. Freshman Corey Bays (Bel Air, Md./CM Wright) sank a trey from the corner to pull R-MC within two at 21-19 with 7:27 remaining in the first half. CNU closed on a 15-4 spurt to take a 36-23 lead at the break. Adams led the visitors with eight points and three rebounds.
CNU scored the first four points of the second half to extend its lead to 40-23. The advantage grew to 26 at 55-29 with 13:00 remaining. The lead was back to 26 at 69-43 with 1:55 remaining before a 4-1 run by the Yellow Jackets made the final 70-47.
Freshman Korey Turner (Midlothian, Va./Amelia Academy) had nine points in his collegiate debut. Junior Daniel Noe (Fairfax, Va./Bishop Ireton) had six rebounds and three blocks.
Randolph-Macon returns to action this weekend in the fifth annual Hoopsville National Invitational Classic at Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Md. On Friday, the Yellow Jackets will face Skidmore at 2 p.m. R-MC will meet Albright on Saturday at 2 p.m.
