ASHLAND, Va. - Senior Ellie Linkous (Charlottesville, Va./Monticello) and junior Brooke Weiss (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) both had a pair of goals as the Randolph-Macon women's soccer team blanked Sweet Briar 8-0 on Saturday in an ODAC match that was played in heavy rain at Day Field.

Six different players scored for the Yellow Jackets (3-4-2, 2-1-0 ODAC), who registered their fourth shutout of the season.

Junior Sofie Rodriguez (Arlington, Va./Washington-Lee) tallied the first goal for R-MC five minutes into the match on a pass from junior Kasey Martino (Centreville, Va./Centreville) to give the Yellow Jackets the early lead. In the ninth minute, freshman Gabby Nelson (Clover, Va./Halifax County) registered her team-leading fourth goal of the season on an assist by sophomore Jenna Burns (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) to give R-MC a 2-0 lead. Burns scored herself in the 18th minute on a pass from freshman Abbie Winkelmann (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) as the Yellow Jackets took a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Weiss netted her first goal in the 47th minute and senior Caroline Hollandsworth (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield) scored in the 56th minute to make it a 5-0 advantage. Weiss added her second goal in the 80th minute to raise the lead to 6-0. Linkous scored twice in the final 10 minutes as the match finished 8-0.

The Yellow Jackets held a 49-0 advantage in shots. Linkous led the victors with 10 shots.

Senior Lindsay Zachman (Hamptead, Md./North Carroll) and freshman Christina Newman (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) combined for the shutout.

Randolph-Macon is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 4 p.m. for a home ODAC match with Virginia Wesleyan.
