Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – The defense for the Randolph-Macon women's soccer team held Washington & Lee to no shots on goal in the second half, but the Generals used a first-half goal to eke out a 1-0 ODAC victory on Wednesday afternoon.
The Generals (11-3-1, 7-1-1 ODAC) netted a goal on a 27-yard free kick in the 27th minute. W&L held an 8-1 edge in shots in the first period.
The Yellow Jackets (5-7-3, 4-4-1 ODAC) had four of their five shots in the second half. Sophomore Mary Virginia Kelley (Midlothian, Va./James River) paced the home team with two shots, while junior Kasey Martino (Centreville, Va./Centreville) had the lone shot on goal for R-MC.
The back line of senior Caroline Hollandsworth (Chesapeake, Va./Grassfield), senior Morgan Gray (Aldie, Va./Freedom), junior Courtney Taylor (Prince George, Va./Prince George) and sophomore Lexi Mallory (Charlottesville, Va./Miller School) held the Generals in check in the second stanza, with four shots and no shots on goal.
Freshman Christina Newman (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) recorded three saves in the first half for the Yellow Jackets.
Randolph-Macon concludes its regular-season schedule on Saturday, Oct. 29, with a 5:30 p.m. ODAC match at Guilford.
