Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – The Randolph-Macon men's soccer team defeated #10/#28 (D3soccer.com/NSCAA poll) nationally ranked Washington and Lee 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. Senior Tyler Slayton (Mechanicsville, Va./ Hanover) scored the games only goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Brian Breslin (Fairfax, Va./ W.T. Woodson) recorded his sixth clean sheet of the season, as he recorded three saves. Breslin has now gathered four clean sheets in five ODAC matches.
Heading into the game, W&L were 4-0 in ODAC play, 10-2 overall and had received votes in the NSCAA Coaches poll. With the win, R-MC are now tied for first in the ODAC with a 4-1 record and now have an 8-2-2 overall record.
The only goal of the game was scored in the 69th minute through Slayton. Sophomore Andrew Gyimesi (Midlothian, Va./ James River) took the original shot that was deflected and then put into the back of the net by Slayton, his second of the season.
The back line of the Yellow Jackets were extremely organized versus the high power Generals offense and were able to hold them to just four shots on target. In the midfield, junior Peter Nelson (Charleston, W.V./ George Washington) was able break up play and distribute from midfield.
R-MC were out shot by W&L 15-13, but R-MC recorded six shots on goal to the Generals four. Junior Bryan Lutz (Mechanicsville, Va./ Hanover) lead the team in shots (4) and tied for first with Slayton on shots on goal (2).
The Yellow Jackets will be back on the field on Tuesday, October 18th when they host ODAC rivals Hampden-Sydney at Day Field at 7 p.m.
