Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – The R-MC volleyball team won its eighth consecutive match in a 3-0 victory over Bridgewater on Friday night. R-MC (16-4, 8-0 ODAC) records its longest winning streak of the season in win over the Eagles (17-5, 6-2 ODAC).
Junior Rebecca McGilvery led the team in kills (19) and total points scored (20). She tallied an impressive .378 hitting percentage on the night while also gathering eight digs.
The Yellow Jackets fell behind early in set one to the Eagles, but controlled the game after taking the lead at 4-3. R-MC would win set one, 25-14.
In the second set, with the Yellow Jackets down 14-13, they would storm back to win seven out of nine points to take control of the set. R-MC claimed the second set 25-21.
Bridgewater took the lead early in the third set and was up 4-2. R-MC would then win five straight points. R-MC and BC battled in the third set, but the Yellow Jackets took control late in the set and finished the match with a kill from junior Mariah Clark (Stuarts Draft, Va./ Riverheads).
Freshman Kai Cunningham (Virginia Beach, Va./ Kempsville) made a huge impact in the match and recorded nine kills on 26 attacks.
Clark contributed greatly to the defensive side, as she gathered eight digs and led the team in blocks with four. Clark scored 11 points in the match.
Junior Colleen Beaver (Fredericksburg, Va./ Massaponax) was second on the team with three blocks and added two kills.
R-MC will be back on the court tomorrow at 12 p.m. when it hosts EMU.
